Great little selection. Helps pick a favorite!
Great selection. Now I also know my favorite!I've had Gustaf candy before, and had ordered a bunch of the licorice cats in the past, but wanted to try some other varieties, including to dip my little toes into the salt licorice. I wasn't sure whether I'd like it or not (having a Belgian friend who'd rescue any unloved candy was certainly a plus), but the assortment allowed me to not try two new flavors while revisiting an old favorite. The verdict? My poor friend is not getting any ... he can order his own ...Ends up I rather like the salt licorice coins. The first one was a bit surprising, as the flavor does not really match up with anything else, and the 'salt' isn't actual salt but a different chemical ... but once my palate got over the slight oddity, I found that I actually love it better than the cats or the drops. The drops are soft, sweet, and very mildly licorice. The cats are sturdier (less chewy, less sticky), and have more of a licorice flavor. Both are good. Went down real smooth. The coins are going to be a repeat order ... and I may even get a bit experimental to try some of the 'saltier' varieties. If you're looking for a trial-size-assortment, this should do the trick!

Couldn't get past the smell!
I don't know what it was, but the smell of these licorice made it so I couldn't actually get one in my mouth. I love salted black licorice (I usually go for the salted Herrings), and thought I'd give these a try. YUCK! They, and I mean every bag- I opened them all to check, smelled like someone ran five miles with damp socks in combat boots after not showering for three days. Oddly specific I know, but that's what I imagine. I opened the first bag and looked around to see if someone had taken off their shoes only to realize I was still home alone with the cat. I figured it must have been a faulty batch in that bag. I opened another and began to wonder if my cat had begun to rot as she slept next to me; the smell of rotted foot flesh was assaulting from two bags now! By the time I got through the rest of the bags I realized that the licorice really just stunk! It was horrible. I never even considered putting a piece in my mouth, they went straight to the trash. I figured it was me and that other maybe salted black licorice from different places just smelled different. Either way, I couldn't even try them so I have to say that for someone who is smell sensitive I wouldn't recommend these. I would like to know if anyone else had this same experience or if it was just me?

Pork gelatine used
I could not eat this as I noticed, too late, that pork gelatin is used!! I shipped it to my son who asked me to leave a good review for him. He, like I, had never heard of Gustaf's drop. He said it was very tasty and would share it with his other Dutch friends. Unfortunately I can not enjoy it. Who uses pork gelatin??

Surprisingly stiff, hard.
The product arrived promptly in a user-friendly box. But, frankly, the product is inedible unless first nuked for about 12 seconds. The flat little round coins are probably the most difficult to eat outta the bag. Maybe this is how this licorice is meant to be...or, perhaps, just perhaps the licorice is old.

Good Not Great
I liked the flavor but even the sweet and soft dots are a little hard.

Very mild
These are okay. The taste isn’t all that well and I don’t like the texture. They are a very mild black licorice.

Contain ammonium chloride & you can taste it
I saw these on a travel channel tv program and was very excited to find them on amazon. But I can hardly bare the strong ammonia flavor in them. When I started chewing , a strong build up of ammonia scent and flavor started in the way back of my nose. I had to spit them out. I thought I maybe just got a bad one so I tried another. Still awful. Then I read the ingredients. And there it was. Ammonia. I wasn’t crazy. I bought the variety pack and tried each one. The only one bareable is the cats. It must contain less than the others. The ammonia is still lingering in the background, but the sweeter licorice flavor in that one overpowers the ammonia. They are ok. But I hated the others. Why do they even contain something like ammonia?? Seriously,... it is super strong. No exaggeration. I wish I could get my money back but they are nonreturnable. I wish I found out the ingredients before ordering. I cannot eat these.

Great value pack for the black licorice lover
Delicious variety pack of quality black licorice. Nicely packaged as well. Shipping was very expensive - if it wasn't so high, I would order more.
