Watch arrived with the stem button loose in the box. Am I supposed to attach it or is this defective?

Defective. It should come attached.

the date display doesnt change over like suppose too. how does it work?

U have to change it manually by pulling stem out. Keep turning the hands it changes date every 24hrs. U may have to turn it many times til u get ur desired date. then set time and press stem back in.

Is this watch water resistant for real? It doesn't say that anywhere on the watch itself.

No. I had mine less than 3 mos and took it in my 4' deep pool (4' is equal to 1.2 meters). Watch was dead immediately afterwards. T Other than that, I liked it.

does the paint scratch off

Yes, I ended up just scratching the rest of it off and it’s now a bare probably zinc case. It doesn’t look horrible with the paint removed, but clearly an inferior coating.
