Best travel router I've ever had
I bought this to address a specific network issue I was experiencing between my main system and a MS Surface Pro. I needed a way to increase the bandwidth between these 2 devices, and also provide Internet. On both systems I installed USB-C 2.5GB network adapters. I set the WAN port to a LAN port, and plugged both systems in. I connected the router as a client to the WIFI. Now normally, when you have both an active WIFI and ethernet connection, the primary connection always defaults to the ethernet. I manually set the metric on my main system to default to the WIFI. On the surface, I disabled the WIFI so it goes through via the travel router. This established a route from the main PC to the Surface via ethernet. After testing the speed between the systems, I was getting a solid 1.8Gbps. That perfectly fixed my issue, but wait....there's more.. Now that I had this very robust router up and running, I absolutely had to check out it's other features. The web interface is extremely intuitive and I quickly got a sense of all of the features available. I tested the VPN client by adding my ProtonVPN manually to the router, and it only took about 3 minutes to have it up and running and tested. It has AdGuard built in, which I won't need much at home since I run PiHole, but it will be very handy when I am travelling. There are a lot of options for remotely managing the router, but also it has an SSH connection. For the very tech-savvy, this is a welcome feature. There is a ton more I could spend hours writing about, but let me condense it down to this. I was worried about spending this much to fix a minor issue I had, but after seeing how perfectly it fixed the issue, and the additional tools that this adds to my travel kit, I am more than satisfied, This is high quality and worth every penny.

The Best Home/Travel Router for the Money
An amazing and highly capable router, suitable for travel or home use. The Slate 7 is one of the best purchases I've ever made. I ran it as my primary router, replacing my ASUS mesh system (switching the ASUS routers to Access Points (AP mode)), using the Slate 7 with WireGuard tunneling as my primary device serving 4K media, gaming needs, and downloading tons of data. Even under high stress usage, the Slate 7 seldom struggled. The only minor downside is that the Beryl 7 (or Slate 7 Pro) simply have better processors for VPN performance. I paired the Slate 7 with a Mudi 7 as a 5G failover, and the Slate 7's USB port was powerful enough to not only charge the Mudi 7, but also had enough bandwidth to work as a hardwired cellular backup connection (which worked great when our home connection dropped out). These routers are extremely capable and customizable. Not only do you have access to LUCI and the full OpenWRT ecosystem, but the default firmware, app, web interface, and GoodCloud are all amazingly useful and well designed. My only complaint is that you still need the web interface at all, and would prefer to have everything in the app. The device has enough compute and memory to run the compressed HaGeZi blocklist in AdGuard Home (requires the web interface to upload), which makes this such a great networking tool for all uses. Even in pushing this device to its limits, the quiet internal fan kicks on to cool the CPU, and it functioned flawlessly under load (VPN split tunneling, 4K streaming, gaming, downloading, and running blocklists). In my year of owning this, GL.iNet has vastly improved the functionality via firmware updates and it can now function as a mesh system in conjunction with a second Slate 7, a Flint 3, or other high-end routers. If you care about reliable and customizable networking, you should grab this (even as a home router). I agree with the FCC rules for the most part, as American onshoring is needed, but I do wish they'd grant GL.iNet an exemption as they run OpenWRT, update their products frequently, and are heavily audited and monitored by the enthusiast networking community. GL.iNet is attempting to expand US operations, and I do hope they are able to succeed in that regard. I've been extremely impressed with their gear. There are definitely bad actors in the networking space (most cheap networking devices on here are compromised), and CCP spying and data harvesting is a real concern, so I don't mean to downplay that. If you can travel abroad and buy a Slate 7 Pro or Flint 4, I would highly recommend those as your primary routers; but given the limitations until the FCC grants cert, you really cannot go wrong with this. I bought this on sale for $126 and it's more than paid for itself. It's an unbelievably great device. How often do you find yourself singing the praises of your router? Great job, GL.iNet and best of luck in the FCC compliance going forward.

Safe browsing while traveling
The GL.iNet Slate 7 is hands down my favorite travel router. It’s small, super functional and easy to set up, and gives me total peace of mind when I’m using sketchy hotel or airport Wi-Fi. I just connect through my VPN, and boom—everything’s secure. No more worrying about who’s snooping on the network. The router looks very cool, specially with the screen functionality. I love that it automatically reconnects to my VPN wherever I go, and it handles all my devices without breaking a sweat. The range is impressive and the speeds are solid, even when I’m streaming or working remotely. The interface is clean and simple—anyone can figure it out in minutes. Honestly, this little inexpensive router makes traveling so much easier. I just toss it in my bag, plug it in when I arrive, and I’ve got my own secure network anywhere in the world. Totally worth it if you travel often or just like staying safe online.

Great Travel Router with Advanced Features
I recently purchased the GL.iNet GL-BE3600 (Slate 7) and it’s quickly become an essential travel companion. What I Love: • Blazing-fast Dual-Band Wi Fi 7: Up to ~688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and ~2882 Mbps on 5 GHz, allowing seamless streaming and fast browsing. • Portable Touchscreen Interface: The intuitive color-coded touchscreen makes switching modes, scanning networks, and toggling VPNs very easy. • VPN Support: Built-in OpenVPN & WireGuard offer strong security and impressive VPN performance (up to ~540 Mbps with WireGuard). • Dual 2.5 Gb Ethernet + USB 3.0: Offers flexibility for wired connections and extra devices • OpenWrt Compatibility: With customizable firmware and plugin support, tech-savvy users can tailor the router extensively • Compact & Travel-Friendly: Small enough to fit in a bag or pocket, with support for US/UK/EU/AU plugs Minor Drawbacks: • Learning Curve: Initial setup and navigation of OpenWrt and VPN configurations can be a bit technical for non-experienced users. • Cable Quality: The included USB C cable may not always feel robust, and using a higher-quality spare cable is recommended. This is a smart purchase for frequent travelers, remote workers, or anyone needing secure, reliable internet on the go. It combines blazing-fast Wi Fi speeds, strong VPN support, and customizable firmware in a compact design. Beginners may need a little time to adjust, but once set up, it delivers excellent performance. I highly recommend it for those looking to upgrade hotel or public Wi Fi setups.

Absolute powerhouse for travel but the touchscreen needs a lock
I bought the Slate 7 for my hotel stays and frequent business trips, and it is easily the most powerful travel router I have ever used. Having Wi Fi 7 and dual 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports in something this compact is incredible. Setup was a breeze, and I love that it runs on standard USB C Power Delivery. I can power it straight from my laptop charger or a heavy duty power bank without hunting for a specific voltage adapter. The built in VPN client and OpenWRT interface make it perfect for bypassing hotel captive portals and keeping all my devices secure on public networks. The only reason I am giving it four stars instead of five is the built in touchscreen. While it is super convenient for quickly checking your connection or scanning a QR code to join the network, it also displays your Wi Fi password right on the screen without requiring a PIN to unlock it by default. If you leave this out in a hotel room, anyone walking by can easily see your network credentials. If the manufacturer can push a firmware update to add a required screen lock, this would be a flawless five star product. Even with that quirk, it is an amazing piece of tech for anyone who needs reliable and fast internet on the go.

The Raspberry Pi of Networking
I run my own IT business. Since discovering GL.iNet I have absolutely fallen in love with their products. The slate 7 was like falling in love all over again For starters I really appreciate the rigidity that they added to the antennas, the sleek look is in my opinion a much better upgrade, it looks more futuristic to match the new Wi-Fi 7 technology. And then more importantly, while yes I do buy these products for myself, I also sell them to clients as IT solutions. What really sells me on this specific product is how easy it is for me to hand this to someone with absolutely no tech literacy and with a little bit of guided instruction have them able to control and manage the device. We are putting ad blockers in the hands of everyday people where they can take their privacy with them on the go. VPN solutions so that businesses can have remote business meetings and file sharing out of the office but still together. My personal favorite use of them in my own home (different router models though) I like to use them as Wi-Fi to Ethernet adapters or Wi-Fi extenders. The device is themselves are absolutely phenomenal, easy to use, reasonably priced. This is the raspberry pi of networking. As far as signal strength, I tested The router in a bank (concrete walls, floors, and ceilings) And I was still able to get a signal on multiple floors at varying distances. As far as speed, Your ISP will probably tap out before this thing does. For functionality, the sky's the limit. I have one client who uses this as a NAS. Speed is reliable consistent. The ethernet ports on the back, for me personally as an IT guy is a lifesaver. And then it has enabled me to help a lot of different clients pseudo hardwire their equipment for better reliability. The touch screen on the front with the quick toggle options for the plugins and having the router come pre-configured with the ad blocker and tor enabled was just icing on the cake. I truly cannot get enough of this device. My single only complaint about this device, is that on the slate 6 we got three ethernet ports which although were labeled could be reconfigured. I don't like that we lost an ethernet port, because now if I want to hardwire two laptops I need to bring a switch with me. Or I use my slate 6. So even with that, 100% I would always get this product and there have been very few times where I have looked at networking options and not considered GL.iNet a valid option. In fact when one of my clients routers went down, I deployed the previous model as a replacement device for their router and it perfectly handled business traffic over a VPN for 2 weeks. And that was the last model, this one is nothing but better. I would love it if we got the three ethernet ports back so that we don't need a switch. But even if that was the case, I would absolutely say that the device is still absolutely worth it, you get an amazing bang for your buck and based on the things that you can do with this, the time you will save, the protections that you can put on yourself, how easy you can make your life with these devices, based on that alone it is highly undervalued. 10/10, absolutely phenomenal piece of equipment, And if there's any way for me to do so I cannot wait to be the first to get my hands on the next model to come

Great travel router
I really like this travel router. Working as expected. Initial router configuration was a bit tricky/confusing at the beginning, but I was able to figure out the best way to use it or connect. I tried to do the setup using both, the Glinet app, and my MAC with Chrome Internet browser. I found it was easier to configure the router directly by just using the Glinet app. Also it is better to do it this way to get used to the Glinet app since this router will be used as a travel router connected most of the time to my iPhone. My configuration is this travel router with my iPhone 16 Pro Max (AT&T service) and a 20,000 mAh Mukiya power bank when a power outlet is not available so my wife and I can continue connected to the Internet using my cellphone's personal hotspot (using the tethering option on the router.) Internet connection is constant/steady and speedy. Recommended. Below some info on testing my setup for two hours: Started using the configuration listed below at 8:40 am: -GL.iNet Travel Router model GL-BE3600: Powered using Battery Pack via USB-C to USB-C cable 10’ -Battery Pack: Mukiya 20,000mAh 3rd Gen charged at 100% -Cellphone: iPhone 16 Pro Max at 94% - it will also be charged while connected to the travel router By 10:40 am the system was working as expected without any Internet interruptions/issues Battery pack charge percentage dropped to 87% on those two hours iPhone battery is now at 100%

A future safe router with everything you need and then some more.
Installed in our Mobile home together with Starlink Mini. Works perfectly and is most likely overkill for my use. But as we travel around, you never know what problems you encounter, and then I have all the features I need in this cute little router. High quality as expected and quite easy to set up.

Perfect companion to 4G/5G Modem
Love it, does what it should. Great range, more than you'd ever need for a 3-4 bedroom house. I got strong 2-3/3 bars of signal without significant speed drop through multiple layers of brick and wall and then beyond. Signal range is ~20m in my experience. More than that I'd want something like the Flint 2 or 3. Pairs exceptionally well with my MudiV2. My favourite feature is that by connecting the Slate 7 to my tailscale tailnet, tweaking a couple settings in Luci, and adding one or two firewall modifications, I am able to allow anyone on the guest wifi to connect to my home server without installing tailscale on that device. Especially useful for random android TVs. I love how Gl-inet ships routers with a clean version of OPENWRT and they have Luci to to allow more complex VLAN, firewall and network settings. Definitely a noticeable upgrade from the MudiV2 WiFi and a layer of security, connectedness, and peace of mind I can put between myself and any internet source.
