Abandoned: Hauntingly Beautiful Deserted Theme Parks

Terrible book design
I’m not someone who has had a ton of design experience but I can tell you this is beyond sub-par. While the photographs are beautiful, the layouts, fonts, and weird graphic design elements totally detract from the work (in a way that is totally impossible to ignore).I crossed my fingers and ordered despite the terrible dust jacket, only to find that the cover is exactly the same (no hiding it by just removing the jacket). Then I found that every single page has a bar running along the edge - on the left it’s the title of the book (in case you forgot), on the right the name of the theme park pictured (in case you didn’t read the chapter introduction). And each chapter introduction is just as bad. I have nothing against Arial, but when used with two other (ugly) fonts, the whole thing looks like a fifth grade project. Some chapters there’s barely any information, and rather than adjusting the design, 3/4 of the page is blank on the bottom like an abandoned Microsoft Word document (save the stylized dark background).I won’t even go into the whole white text on a dark background issue, we all have things to do today. But it’s worth mentioning that there is absolutely no white space in this book. Every single page has a bleed edge. It’s so dark it makes it difficult to make out what some of the images even show. I don’t mind a photo bleeding off the page - when used sparingly it’s a dramatic way to feature something. But when done on every page, it’s overwhelming to the eye. This is the type of photography that needs to be printed on a big white page - there’s a reason photographs are typically matted in white and not black.I dislike the presentation so much I’m paying $6.15 to ship it back, and a 20% restocking fee from the original seller (which, really? come on.). This means I’m being refunded about half of my money but it still feels necessary. Don’t get this book.

Abandoned Parks
I loved the parks and the eerie skeletal remains. My family, in 1996 went to the Disney Discovery Island and it was amazing - full of animals, plants, and showsabout conservation. I was saddened to hear it closed between visits. Places forgotten haunts and intrigues me. The visual posters were phenomenal.

Wonderful conversation/coffee table book to be shared.
Love the photos included in this project. There is something to be said for that actual page or picture in your hands. After seeing the hauntingly beautiful photos lol for lack of a better description. I found myself intrigued and spent hours looking up facts! ;) ok I'll just say.... in some cases the land speaks for itself! 😮Lastly, great value for $20I drop that at coffee shops all the time. This has a home in my collection to be enjoyed by my family over and over. The book itself it well put together. Great find for $20. Thank you, Seph Lawless 🥰

A world we will never see...
Hauntingly beautiful is the perfect description. These photos take us to worlds that we will never see. We have all been to theme parks at some point in our lives, but the photos in this book show us another side (a parallel dimension maybe?) of the parks we know. I got turned on to Seph Lawless through the television show "Abandoned". His photos of abandoned malls were just breathtaking. I can't wait for that book to come out! These photos are amazing and totally worth the price of the book.

Couldn't put it down.
Darn you Seph Lawless. Amazon delivered this and it was in the middle of a busy day. I had to stop everything I was doing and pour over the entire book. It is haunting and beautiful. I appreciate the commentary. I also discovered things I did not know. Then I had to drive to a friends house and share. So much for my day!!!
