ECW - House Party 98 DVD-R

Better than expected
I wasn’t sure what to expect with this, but it exceeded the bar I had set. DVD case art is a replica of the RF Video one - it’s not perfect, but good enough. The movies are DVD-Rs as indicated, but the quality is very good. I was honestly expecting VHS quality, but this is DVD quality.Great source for some of these videos as they were never available on the WWE Network or whatever it’s called now.I’ll definitely be a return customer for some other ECW content.

The event Atsushi Onita was meant to Invade and make his American "Hardcore" Return
This event was interesting on paper but, by 1998 ECW was crashing fastMostly due to Paul E. doing backroom deals with the then competition WWFBut, This event as a whole is impressive both WCW and WWF with there massive budget and disposable income could've never pulled off a live event like this...............1.Axl Rotten, Balls Mahoney and Tommy Dreamer (with Beulah McGillicutty) vs The Full Blooded Italians (Little Guido, Tommy Rich and Tracy Smothers) very strange 6-man tag team average opener2. Jerry Lynn vs the late Chris Candido (great match all around)3. Gran Hamada vs Gran Naniwa (This was cool having wrestlers from the far East do there style)4. Al Snow vs Amish Roadkill (forgettable besides seeing how over Al Snow was with the ECW fans)5.Justin Credible vs The Great Sasuke (Really good this match helped propel Credible into being a true main event wrestler in ECW) With ECW losing so many stars Credible helped keep ECW alive longer then expected6. Rob Van Dam vs The Late Bam Bam Bigelow (really enjoyable match the two work off each other)7. Taz ( ECW World Television Championship) vs 2 Cold Scorpio very good mostly due to 2 ColdBy this time the Taz shoot fighter gimmick was all but, dead it's a little sad Taz couldn't put 2 Cold over and let him have the tv title one last time8. The Dudley Brothers (Big Dick Dudley, Buh Buh Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley, with Joel Gertner and Sign Guy Dudley) vs The Gangstanators (John Kronus and New Jack) and Spike Dudley this is pure insanity around this time the Dudley's were the most over heel tag team ever in ECW they knew how to get heat super quick there were numerous times The Dudley's almost started riots they were that hatedThis match is just a classic ECW garbage match with bodies everywhere weapons and blood!prior to this event Atsushi Onita invaded a ECW tv attacked Sandman with a massive ball of barbed wire and called out ECW in general for ripping him off Onita created FMW in the late 1980's which was promotion that highlighted Shoot Fighting and strong style/stiff Pro Wrestling with hardcore ultra violence.... This was set up to be the build upIt was originally meant to be Onita vs Sandman in The Stairway to Hell (Deathmatch)That never happened so we gotSandman vs Sabu (Stairway to Hell match) is a brutal old school bared wire/ladder match (This match was more old Puerto Rico flashback) Sabu gets mangled lots of blood and duct tape is usedThis match was interesting and a bit of fresh air since there first National PPV ECW barley ever did any hardcore style match anymore (Nothing this Japanese style)Overall this match should've been a main event for a PPV but, i guess the PPV disturbers didn't want to even try to sell this plus the New Jack Mass Transit incident happened earlier so everyone involved were afraidIt would've been cool to see Sandman vs Onita (ECW vs FMW) but, that never happenedLess then 5 years later XPW would try and sign and have a match between Sabu vs Onita in the States that too never happenedIf you take this event for what it is a huge live event (Not a PPV it's solid and better then most of the later PPV)It's also before ECW completely lost 40% of there main starsIt's a interesting pro wrestling time capsule you can see a lot of ROH or Pro Wrestling Guerrilla in various matches through-out this showIt's a must see once to experience the Dudley 6-man craziness , The Sandman vs Sabu (Deathmatch) RVD vs Bigelow , and Justin Credible vs The Great Sasuke among others by 1998 ECW was phoning it in this was a great example how unique and fresh ECW could be Any old or new fan of the real/original ECW should check it out 9/10

ECW House Party 1998 review
The Six-Man Tag Match: The FBI vs. Ballz Mahoney, Axl Rotten & Tommy Dreamer was your basic ECW stuff. Nothing good & Nothing bad. The Jerry Lynn vs. Chris Candido match was okay but the finish comes completely out of nowhere. The Gran Naniwa vs. Gran Hamada match was so-so but it never clicked anyway and the fans didn’t care. The Roadkill vs. Al Snow match was short and a dud too. The Justin Credible vs. The Great Sasuke match was quite good outside of the finish, however. The Rob Van Dam vs. Bam Bam Bigelow match was ust insanely long, filled with stalling, dumb-as-Phantoms finish, you name it. Their match in Buffalo a few months later was so much better it’s not even close. The ECW TV title: Taz vs. 2 Cold Scorpio was a bit of a trainwreck, but not without its charm. The The Dudley Boyz vs. Spike Dudley, New Jack & Kronus. D-Von was like the Mighty Ducks cartoon, a dud. The Stairway to Hell match between Sabu & The Sandman was was an okay bunch of spots, but Sabu’s injury just shot the ending all to you-know-where. I give this show a 2 out of 10.
