The other day a driver in a SUV pulled up close to me, rolled down the passengar window and talked to me. I thought I would get a lecture on walking in the street. Instead, I received a very kind "thank you for wearing something that can be so easily seen". Five of us walk together, but I am the only one wearing reflective gear so I stay to the street side where I can more easily be seen. You may ask does this keep me from being cautious?
