On NYY type cables, that have an outer and inner sheath it works very well on the tough outer sheath. I used a standard knife on the inner sheath, because this is much softer, although I expect this tool would still work. If it doesn't, a sharp blade will handle it - but it's the tough outer sheath where the Jokari really earns its keep! Obviously on SWA armoured cable, you're best with either a hacksaw or blade runner tool. **Q: Is it standard stanley knife blades used or is it special blades needed?** A: Theyre special blades for this. Much smaller than a stanley blade. **Q: Will this knife slice through tough flex cable outer insulation** A: This tool was hevier duty than i needed so I'm afraid I can't directly answer your question.
