Guac Is Extra But So Am I: The Reluctant Adult's Handbook

Collection of practical advice for people just starting their post-college adult life
This is more or less a life guide for 20-somethings, written by someone who recently moved past that phase, has a lot of helpful knowledge and advice, and is articulate. Chapters/topics include etiquette, career, dating, finances, entertaining, weddings, and health. I got a lot of good tips out of this, although I'm somewhat older that its target audience. This book should be helpful for anyone who is willing and able to read it (as opposed to only getting new knowledge via Youtube.)

A Witty, Unexpectedly Tender Manual For Surviving Your 20s
Sarah Solomon could've very easily written an acerbic book piercing the low-hanging fruit of stereotypical Millennial excesses... and to some degree she did, tackling everything from the perils of swipe-enabled dating and hookups to the joys and agonies of becoming acquainted with alcohol to the absurdity of unironic, self-styled "influencers," with her trademark (and often self-deprecating) sarcasm. Although her writing is sharply satirical, Solomon is never mean: she's never petty, never cruel, and somehow never cynical. Instead, she displays an unexpected tenderness throughout her (wo)manual (that's as 'woke' as this old man will ever be, so enjoy it): she clearly knows how difficult the transitions from college to "adulting" can be and she she enlightens and inspires as she entertains.Indeed, this book is imminently useful: there are sections on everything from understanding basic finance and investing to the basics of wine pairing, all of which she has painstakingly researched. She may treat her subjects with a light touch, but the core of her advice is always sound and sensible without being condescending or aiming to flatter either herself or her audience. That's an exceptionally rare attribute and Solomon's book is all the richer for it.Her illustrations abound throughout the text, providing an additional layer of personality, though her prose is plenty colorful as fans of her writing already know. Solomon's book is a bright spot in publishing for its utility, hilarity, and its tenderness: an altogether charming read that you'll refer to again and again.

This is the book we’ve all been waiting for.
Anyone who lived through their twenties will admit they had no idea what they were doing. First job? Dating? Attempting to be a human being? God bless. But what if there was another way?In ‘Guac is Extra But So Am I’, Sarah Solomon has attempted, and may very well have succeeded, in providing a roadmap for those who find themselves at the crossroads of a newfound freedom and responsibility, of respectability and just trying to have a damn good time without getting kicked out of your apartment. While the embossed pages may not contain the meaning of life, you will find answers to questions such as ‘which cheeses do I put out for a Derby Party?’, ‘is this bar cart tasteful or a sign of burgeoning alcoholism?’, ‘what is this 401(k) thing my dad keeps bothering me about?’, and ‘should I send that [redacted]?’ (No, sweetie).Unexpectedly practical, laugh out loud funny, and filled with a signature biting prose that is consistently instructive but never preachy, her book may very well be the 10 millennial commandments Moses left on the mountain (a man only has so many hands, you know). Sarah’s collection of trial-by-fire wisdom is the compendium of been-there-done-that I wish I had years ago.

Where was this book when I was in my 20s?
Fun and incredibly informative, this book is like having a drink with a “adulthood Sherpa.” I wish I’d had a guidebook like this years ago. As it is, it would be a terrific graduation gift.

Everything you need to know about adulthood (but were too afraid to ask)
Sarah Solomon's debut is a funny, authentic account of life in your 20s and early 30s. Her laser-sharp observations of life are universal as she covers every one of life's uncertainties with her signature wit. From grocery shopping to modern dating, she leaves no stone unturned—and she takes very real, very frightening aspects of adulthood and makes them less intimidating... and more relatable. This book is the perfect read for anyone who is sure to make a mark on the world, but unsure of where to start. Solomon's insights serve as proper guidance for those of us in need of a friend who's been there and done that... without judgement.

Good book, makes a great gift!
This book makes a great coffee table book and conversation piece, and is very informative. It has a cute title and fun illustrations which pull you in, but also has so many interesting topics. You'll probably find a lot of topics that seem straightforward, but others that you would have never thought about, or felt stupid asking someone about. Sarah's sense of humor is hilarious. Hearing her wisdom-learned-through-mistakes reminds you of -that- friend everyone has, and makes me wish I was friends with her. I plan on getting a copy for everyone I know who is graduating college or starting adult life!

Love it
I loved this book . It possibly could be a great one to gift for someone getting out of college or maybe high school too. Or just anyone could read it lol. It gives you a little bit of information on many topics about “adulting.” It was really interesting to me as a 21 year old it did teach me a couple of things I didn’t know about .

Formatting was off
Seems like an interesting book but all the formatting was off for the digital version. Words overlapping means I couldn't read them. I have the Kindle app and a brand new Macbook Air.
