Rather good color match. Indistinguishable w/o bright light. Not perfect, but still rather useful.

Awesome tool!
We have a small painting business and color matching used to mean getting out several fan decks to try and find the best match. This little gem does it with an app and seems to do it with an amazing level of accuracy. It was easy to download and install the app. You don't have to give any personal information if you don't want to but if you want it to remember your matches, you have to play ball. Sampling colors from a number of areas is always a good idea, but we have found that this device pretty much nails the color and sheen as long as the sample area is clean. This is saving us a ton of paint on touch ups and blends. We can now confidently make a repair without having to run out entire walls or ceilings. We have had basically 100% success with this on probably 50 different colors so far. For the price, this is completely worth it. Basically the cost of 2 or 3 gallons of premium paint, if you get one mistint because you didn't guess right, this thing pays for itself. Supposedly, the company has partnered with Sherwin-Williams. There are versions of this device that have been branded for Sherwin-Williams and are pre loaded with the Sherwin Williams ENTIRE color palette. From what I have heard, they will be available from Sherwin-Williams for about $30 more than you can find them on Amazon. Not sure if it will be worth it, as the standard palette of Sherwin-Williams colors already on the app seems to do just fine. If I had to guess, ColorMuse will probably try and partner with all the big brands and do the same. If you are a painter or designer, you need one of these. Super handy.

Works as Described
Item was recieved in a torn box clearly used and paint/dust on the sensor. I ordered a replacement, and will update if a new item is sent or not. Update after replacement request - a new item was received. The device overall does exactly what it says it will. It is useful for color matching non paint items, or being able to get an idea of what closest preset colors from major manufacturers would match. It does have quite a bit of issue with shades of white, as well as sheen on white paint, but the comparison tool allows you to grab two snaps and see how the shades vary. This way you can find the closest match, then adjust slightly to lighten/darken or change the hue.

Exceeded expectations
My house was last repainted 20+ years ago with PPG paints and I recorded some of the paint colors being used, but not all of them. The living room walls were also a custom color recommended by the paint shop and it was just called "Jim's Beige". I need to redo some walls that have been chipped or damaged, and I don't want to do the entire space (it's very large). In addition, PPG is no longer available within reasonable driving distance, whereas I can find Benjamin Moore at many local stores. So, I decided to try the Color Muse 3 to help with finding proper matches to the paint colors I had not recorded. Wow! This thing is amazing. As test cases, I scanned the rooms with known paint colors and surprisingly, despite aging for this long, the Color Muse 3 identified the correct color as a "Good Match". For some rooms, it did find alternatives that were "Excellent Match", and they do appear lighter which would be expected with fading after 20 years. So, this gives me a good feeling to try those "Excellent Match" colors if I need touch up areas before I commit to painting the entire wall or room. For the living room, I now have standard color options from Benjamin Moore rather than a custom PPG color. One thing that is still questionable is the sheen identification. I just recently painted a reach-in closet using Benjamin Moore Semi-Gloss. The Color Muse 3 did identify the correct color as "Excellent Match", but it identified the sheen as Satin. This was on paint that is less than two weeks old, so I did expect it to identify the sheen correctly. Still, I can deal with this since matching color is more important in my mind than getting the sheen correct. However, I did choose the Color Muse 3 over the Color Muse for the sheen identification and higher pixel resolution, and I'm not sure the added cost is really worth it.
