The Art of Miss Chew

This book was one of my daughters’ favorite books and so I had to pick up a copy for my granddaughters to read here at my home. This author writes in a way that everyone can read and enjoy her books, even those with learning differences. The pictures are wonderful too.

I have to say that as a retired school librarian, Patricia Polacco is one of my favorites. You can always get such a good lesson in with your students when you read one of her books to a group. The Art of Miss Chew is no exception. My students enjoyed the stories and enjoyed the art work, too. When the budget didn't have the funds for her books, I bought them myself for our school library and don't regret a cent of it. She has so much to offer young children as well as us old children, too. God bless Patricia Polacco.

Wonderful story.

I read this book to my granddaughter. I am a teacher too. I could not help thinking of all the great teachers I had, my children had, my grandchildren have, and how much I love teaching too. All of her books are amazing. I have them all and read them time and again to my grandchildren. You cannot go wrong with Polacco. She shares her life experiences, her family history, cultural diversity, and good ethics and morals, most of all lots and lots of a love.

If you have a budding young artist, this book will help them see the value of their talent. It will also introduce them to the ways in which society denegrates art. It's important for young artists to understand why society doesn't always support art because, as artists, they will be drawn into conversations about the importance and value of art. Polacco shows how art helps people see things differently (which happens to be the basis for empathy). This book has all of the wonderful elements that you expect in a Polacco book: great drawings; a touching, insightful story based on her life; and real humans facing real challenges.

I love Mrs. Polacco 's books. She is an amazing author and artist. I always feel good after I read them. Strong family ties are talked about in all her books as well as how others contribute to her characters life. We are molded by all that touch our lives.

This is a heartwarming story about discovering great abilities, talents, and joy. Trisha has a hard time at school, but in art class, she truly blossoms into a talented artist with the help of her art teacher, Miss Chew. This is a great book for adults and kids alike.

This is a story about an art teacher who was an inspiration to Patricia Polacco and helped her become the great artist and storyteller that she is today. Patricia Polacco has much admiration for teachers and has highlighted this in several of her books. This would be a great book for an art teacher to read to her classes.

Beautiful book. Lovely illustrations. Really nice story especially if a young person has dyslexia or learning difficulties.
