This is a pretty good machete. Its stainless steel, the handle has a smooth finish and the blade is sharp out of the box. The sheath isn't the greatest is the only downside. The machete swings nicely, and has some weight to it. The spine is fairly thick and appears to be a well made blade, it's not flimsy like the cheap machetes.

Wanting a machete that had a thicker blade and a hand guard was the main reason for my decision for this purchase. Upon receiving it I was pleased to see the quality is much nicer than one would need just to clear out some brush, etc. And was extremely pleased to find that the blade cutting edge was hallow ground. Very important in keeping the cutting edge sharp and providing a deeper "bite". As to the grade of steel, I would wish for better information. Time will tell on that.

Sooo...there's a few flaws. Nothing major, but there are flaws in the steel in a couple of places. The grinding or finish or something is messed up in a couple spots. However, the construction is solid. It came sharp and it looks really good. Guys, this is basically a short sword. It's called a machete, but it qualifies as a short sword in my opinion. The wood scales on the handles have gaps and differences in the profile size. Like I've already said a couple times, these minor flaws don't bother me and certainly don't take away from the functionality of the product. This thing's got chops. It's really fun to hold and swing around. I oiled it immediately after unboxing it because the blade looked dry and marked. The oil did away with the little marks right away and the thirsty steel polished right up to be nice and pretty. I think it's worth the price. Flaws, yes, but functional as a machete, short sword? Yes. The blade is thicker than your typical machete. I like it.

The Timber Rattler Machete is a pretty solid piece. For the price, it's a good deal. I wasn't looking for something I had to be careful using, I wanted a tool that I could put to hard use and not worry about it if I happened to break it. That said, I don't know if I could break it just chopping branches and brush. The grinding lines for the edge are not perfectly straight, and there are visible tool marks on the blade. But it's solid, quite sharp and hefty. The sheath is probably not the most durable, but will do to protect both the blade and my fingers. There is no play in the grips, although I did wrap them with grip tape since it felt like it would be a bit slippery if it got sweaty. Once I saw the first one, I ordered a second one as a backup. Happy with that one too!

4 stars because of the price. Quality of the blade is really 3 stars. I test the hardness of every blade I buy with the file kit shown in the video, as that is its intended purpose. Rockwell hardness is HRC 45. HRC 40 File skated right over the blade and left no damage. HRC 45 file made minor scratches on the edge of the blade, and also left a very minor rolling of the edge as well. HRC 50 left very visible scratches and deformation on the blade edge and the ricasso. It's intended purpose is a machete, which will mean it receives high impact force when hacking and slashing through brush. Typically you want a "softer" hardenable steel for this type of work, as a harder steel (HRC 55 and higher) will be too brittle and likely crack / shatter with high impact. The trade off is you have to sharpen more frequently for softer steels, but it is also much easier to sharpen than harder steels with higher carbon content. I would have preferred it to have been a stainless steel that could harden to somewhere around HRC 50-53, but it was also only 35 dollars, so I can't expect too much. Is this a "wall hanger"? Only if you want it to be. Is it functional / practical? Absolutely, if you know how to care for a blade like this, and understand what is required of you to mantain the blade, just like any other blade you would own, regardless of it's Rockwell (HRC) hardness rating. In summation, is it the best stainless steel machete you could own? No, probably not, but it will work, and the price is also MUCH cheaper than a machete with a higher quality stainless steel. These are the reasons why I gave it 4 stars.

It was awesome and bigger then I thought

Overall, I'm very happy with the quality. It has some heft to it, and doesn't feel like a cheap blade. I was a little worried after reading some reviews that said it did not have a full-tang, but after some close inspection mine appears to be full-tang as advertised. I'll attach some close-up photos. The sheath strap has some frayed fabric on it, but it's not serious enough to warrant a return.
