Truly amazing for the price
This is my first foray into the world of DC variable water pumps, I have a massive collection of ac pumps and never considered anything else before a few months ago.You will not find a better, well thought out pump on Amazon in this price category. I know this because I initially bought a different model that was $10 less, and none of the fittings were even remotely compatible with any type of widely available metric or imperial tubing or pipe in the US.This DCP 3500 has a hard pipe connection that is an excellent fit with 3/4" PVC, which is what I'll be plumbing with, and a nice tight 3/4 barb which I'm using for testing purposes. No rigging anything together, it all works out of the box.Noise was not a contributing factor in my purchase, but it is the quietest pump I've ever owned. Even without suction cups, just sitting in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket, it's completely silent. The power is incredible for such a small pump, an ac pump with this amount of flow would be 1.5x the size and 3-4x the wattage.Speaking of wattage, I live off grid, and water pumps really start to add up when you're using several, I'm so impressed with this pump I've already ordered another 3500 as a backup, and a 2500 for moving the fluidized bed in my sump/for water changes. The variable flow is such a cool feature (I realize this is inherent to DC pumps in general), being able to match the 4 overflows that are feeding this without a ball valve and a guess is pretty awesome, and it pumps great even at the lowest setting, at least in initial testing. The value is incredible. Compared to the other pump I initially purchased, everything just works with this one. Don't settle for weird fitting sizes that are going to require major modifications to make work, I can't trust that in a permanent installation and you shouldn't either.Looking around online, replacement controllers are available, that isn't going to happen with any of the other pumps in this price range.I can't speak to longevity, but based on my reading these are either great or a dud, and it should be known soon enough, I'll update my review if I have any issues. The only cons I see are that the barbed adapters aren't the best quality I've run across, but far from the worst, and because they're well fitting with standard 3/4 vinyl and silicone tubing they don't need to be wildly torqued down with a hose clamp and I don't foresee any issues. The instructions are in the second half of the manual, and convey enough to understand how everything works if you are a competent English reader, but they're also very sparse on extra information you might want, like o-ring size, etc.I highly recommend this pump, even if it only lasted a year I would consider it an excellent value at this price point, but hopefully I'll get much more life than that.

Up to snuff with the $200+ pumps
Some of the components feel a little flimsy and roughly manufactured. However everything fits together well. It is very quiet. And the variatable speeds save electricity. The controller is simple enough to use. It has been in use for almost a year and is working very well. I was glad I purchased it and it has served me well. No leaks at all. Comes with glue unions which I used my regular PVC glue and primer on. Be careful of sizing this pump to your tank. The GPH rating is generous and does not factor in feet of head (height the pump has to send the water) the flow rates go down the higher it goes. All this to say this was perfect for my 100 gallon tank + 40 gallon sump.Update: 2 years running. Had a slight leak so I took it apart for a repair. The main body O-Ring failed and was leaking. Not the worst after two years but O-Rings should last a bit longer. I happen to be a commercial water valve technician so I had a replacement on hand. Upon complete take down and clean of all motor components it wasn’t over all in like new condition. After replacing the o-rings it worked like the day I first plugged it in. If I were you I would highly recommend contacting the seller who is very friendly and responsive and ask to buy a spare o-ring kit. And get some o-ring lube. In case you have the same issue. I personally will be buying a second pump to have on hand. Return pumps die or leak all the time it is what they do. If you have a spare that is the same one you can drop in the new one and get parts for the old one. Fish can’t wait for 2-day shipping.I still give this a 5-star. You can buy 5 of these for the price of the “name brand” dc pumps. If your buying this for the first time buy one more than you need. You will always be prepared for an emergency.I’ve seen other reviews about some mfg issues. They don’t have great quality control but they make up for it in customer support. And for the guy who put thread tape on an o-ring union 🤦🏼♂️. C’mon man! The o-ring in the union does the sealing not the threads. Don’t leave one star reviews because you don’t know basic plumbing. Guys o-rings fail. Have spares! And check your equipment often.
