Honeywell RA832A1066 Hydronic Switching Relay

So I have a long term relationship with my boiler. I have worked on it for many years and had just about every senerio possible. It’s a very simple system and reliable so why change it until you have to. House felt cold as we were going to bed and then panic situation evolved. It’s Alaska in the winter and midnight is not the best time to have no heat working. No problem I have lots of experience and hopefully everything I could need to make it go. I check all zones and all are calling for heat. I open the access door on the boiler to check power and it fires 🔥 up . Check everything and all is well. This happens every day at the same time for a week. I now leave the panel open and my Fluke ready to find the failed component and it fires 🔥 when I enter the room. So I finally narrow it down to the xx points in the relay that control gas valve and order the relay. It’s Christmas time and everything else comes to my house but this relay. Ok it’s a really bad time to order so I end up cleaning the points on my relay and it never misses a beat again. My circulation pump never fails anymore ,doesn’t stick on or fail because of low voltage burnt points because I use both points on the relay for it. I never had the xx points fail or burn ever in thirty years and they still haven’t. Just dirty. So this is simple stuff compared to what I have worked on for my entire career and it is recreation trouble shooting at this point. So the points are self cleaning according to the information provided with this relay. Because I had this all worked out before the relay finally arrived through the Christmas rush and never failed since I didn’t replace it. So a spare relay on the shelf along with a gas valve and zone valves and it will probably last until total replacement occurs. Bulletproof relay and super reliable in a reliable old boiler. 1969 Weil McLain. I will miss this old timer when it goes but logic controls are hard to beat for diagnostics.

Relay works but makes a very Loud, Buzzing sound when it comes on. Have to shut it off and turn it back on to make it stop. I have Two other ones for different zones that have been in operation for over 15years and they have been working fine with no problems.

A good replacement for my old RA832NA, a 1963 fintage. Up and running.

Transformer hums and both coil sets were way hotter than older 20 year old identical Honeywell original RA832A.This replaces an identical model installed for a basement zone added 2002.The 1962 versions next to it are still working flawlessly.Started having an issue of intermittent signal to ignite boiler on original even when boiler was cold, yet pump circulator was running. Just pulling off the cover or sliding it would trigger the boiler. Worked without hiccup for 20 years but it was not reliable no matter what adjustments and contact cleaning was done.New one is working every time, so I can stop worrying about it. Came in earlier than quoted which was nice too.

Worked perfect as a replacement for my old device. Got a quote for about $3500 to fix / upgrade my old system but this replacement piece did the job perfectly.

This is a heater part and if your heater uses one of these, you have to get this or equivalent., My original failed when a circulator pump malfunctioned. I think the pump took too much current. So, replaced pump and this part and all was well. The original Honeywell lasted 40 years or so and this one looked just like the old one. The only caution that I have is there are many variations of these controllers that look identical - so be careful to make sure the numbers match before you order.
