Good BBQ for its price
So far I really like it. The only thing I can complain about is that the thermometer does not work. So I will have to look for a better one to replace it with. But it was easy to put together, seems pretty sturdy. The directions were not the greatest, but not impossible to understand. It came well packaged and in good time.

Temp gauge did not work.
Temp gauge did not work. Assembly was incredibly time consuming.

Near perfect, but falls short out of box.
Build quality is good, but really more parts needed for a proper working unit. Instructions lacking. Took me about an hour and a half to put together. Thermometer is not useful. If you want to spend about 15 bucks it would be perfect. The design is awesome, it's just sad the little things they left out. First of all you NEED lock washers, especially for the vents; the nuts will spin off when you use vents if you don't add lock washers. Second, it would be really nice to have grommets for the holes were you check temp with your separate thermometers; they are just holes and smoke leaks out at these spots. Last, the thermometer that comes with this grill is junk. It shows only Celsius and the Celsius gauge range is so great that there is only about a 1/8 inch on the gauge where the needle is in the smoking range.

Great small smoker
Great small smoker. Ideal for most smoking needs. Two layers allow a lot of food to be cooked in a relatively small smoker. Directions are a bit hard to follow.

Great idea... But performs like a kids starter smoker.
I have used smokers such as this for many years. This one is a bit smaller than the ones I am accustomed to. I like steam smokers for certain items. This one is a bit squirrely. If I figure out the magic combination, I will update my review. My issue is the length of cook time. As long as the fire is going, I can maintain around 180-200 degrees. Perfect. I like to keep it in that area. So check that box. The temperature is regulatable. But the duration is a problem. You have to prep the coals. But the coal pan is very small. I use lump charcoal but it doesn't make a difference. I don't use starter fluid, I use tumbleweed starters. So no accelerated burn. Once you get everything rolling you have about 2 hours of cooking time with the small pan. Now that's a problem. My favorite thing to cook on this type of smoker is chicken. Chicken takes 1 hour per pound to cook. Two chickens is about 5 hours. That's a normal family size portion. Lot of bone. So half a chicken a person is a good portion. Quarter if it's a kid (if you are lucky). So in order to cook for 5 hours. I have to cook my first 2-2.5 hours. Then reset the coals. Then another 2-2.5 hours. You can't just add charcoal. The smoke you get off that will get in your food, taste nasty, and give you heartburn. This might be ok for smoking small stuff. Hamburgers, sausage, etc. But for grown up cooking. I haven't figured out a reasonable way yet.
