Incredible Camera for the Cost!
The Foscam V5P is a versatile and feature-packed security camera designed to meet the needs of both home and business users. With its sleek design, advanced features, and competitive price point, it offers solid value for anyone looking to enhance their security system. Below, I will try to break down its key features and performance across several categories. Design & Build Quality The Foscam V5P features a compact, modern design that blends well with most environments. It’s designed for both indoor and outdoor use, boasting an IP66 weatherproof rating, which ensures it can withstand rain, dust, and temperature fluctuations. This makes it ideal for both home security and monitoring outdoor spaces. It works great in my freezing cold temperature area of the US!!!! The camera has a sturdy plastic housing that feels solid but isn’t overly bulky. Its adjustable mounting bracket allows for flexible installation angles, and the camera itself is relatively lightweight. For those installing it outside, the weatherproofing ensures reliable performance even in harsh conditions. Video Quality The Foscam V5P boasts 3k 5mp Full HD resolution, delivering clear, sharp images both during the day and at night. The camera comes with a wide field of view (around 120°), which allows you to monitor large areas with fewer cameras. -Daytime Performance: During daylight hours, the video quality is impressive. Colors are vibrant, and the level of detail is sufficient for identifying faces and objects at a reasonable distance. -Night Vision: The camera includes infrared night vision capabilities, with a range of up to 30 feet. Even in complete darkness, the V5P produces clear and usable video, though like most cameras in this range, image sharpness can slightly degrade in very low light conditions. Two-Way Audio The Foscam V5P supports two-way audio, allowing you to listen to what’s going on in the camera’s vicinity and speak through the built-in microphone and speaker. This is useful for situations where you may need to communicate with people remotely, such as in a baby monitor setup or for interacting with visitors at a front door. The sound quality is decent for basic use, though it may not be as high-fidelity as more premium models. That said, the two-way audio feature adds a lot of versatility and interactivity to the camera. Motion Detection & Alerts The motion detection feature in the Foscam V5P is highly customizable. You can set up specific motion zones, adjust sensitivity, and receive real-time push notifications to your phone or email whenever motion is detected. This helps reduce false alarms by focusing the camera’s attention on key areas. It also integrates with cloud storage and SD cards, enabling you to record footage triggered by motion. The cloud storage option provides added security by keeping your footage offsite, reducing the risk of losing it if the camera is tampered with. You can also set it up to connect to a NVR, which basically then gives you every option you could ever need! App & Software Integration The Foscam V5P works seamlessly with the Foscam app, available on both iOS and Android devices. The app is intuitive and easy to navigate, allowing you to quickly access live footage, adjust settings, and receive alerts. It also supports video playback from both the microSD card and cloud storage. Additionally, the camera supports integration with third-party smart home platforms such as Alexa and Google Assistant, making it easy to incorporate into your existing home automation system. This level of integration adds convenience and flexibility, particularly for those already using smart home ecosystems. Storage Options The camera supports local storage via microSD cards (up to 128GB), allowing you to record continuous footage or footage triggered by motion detection. The cloud storage service is another option, providing extra peace of mind in case the camera is damaged or stolen. For those looking for a more robust security setup, Foscam also offers network video recorder (NVR) support, allowing you to expand your system and integrate multiple cameras into a centralized recording solution. Performance In terms of overall performance, the Foscam V5P excels in its reliability. The setup process is straightforward, with detailed instructions provided both in the manual and via the app. The camera connects to your home Wi-Fi network with ease, and the signal strength is strong with minimal dropouts during operation. The camera’s responsiveness when using the mobile app is excellent, with no noticeable lag or reviewing recorded footage. The quality of the live stream is stable, even when connected remotely, thanks to its good compression and video stream settings. Pros: -3k 5mp Full HD video quality ensures clear and crisp footage. -5GH and 2.4GH offers great connectivity! -AI human and vehicle detection at 66ft is awesome! -Two-way audio is a nice added feature for communication. -Motion detection is highly customizable with real-time alerts. -Night vision offers reliable performance in low-light conditions. -Cloud storage and local SD card and NVR recording options provide flexibility in how you store footage. - Seamless integration with Alexa and Google Assistant. -Weatherproof (IP66) design is perfect for both indoor and outdoor use. Cons: -Audio quality is good but not outstanding. -SD card storage requires frequent management as it can fill up quickly, depending on video recording settings. -Cloud storage requires a subscription for extended use, which might not be ideal for all users. Conclusion Overall, the Foscam V5P is a solid security camera that offers a great balance of features, performance, and value. Its 3k 5mp HD video, strong night vision, and motion detection features make it a great choice for home or office security. While the audio quality and cloud storage subscription fees may be slight drawbacks for some, the camera’s reliability and ease of use more than make up for it. If you're looking for a budget-friendly yet feature-rich security camera to enhance your surveillance setup, I highly recommended this camera!!!!

I'm quite happy so far with this Foscam security camera.
I'm going to say this is really a 4.5 star camera, but because I got it on sale and so far it's been mostly meeting my expectations I'm giving it 5 stars. Here's what I like about it. - Image quality during the day is outstanding. - Has a very large field of view. - Image quality at night using IR is very acceptable and slightly better when the spotlights are triggered during motion detection. - Motion detection is quite good. In fact it's light years ahead of the previous camera I had. The last camera would trigger an alert if a mosquito flew in front of it. This Foscam seems to be doing very good at detecting humans and vehicles. If you want more detection schemes (package, face, etc.) then you need to sign up for their cloud package. I don't need anything but human and vehicle detection and I'm happy as of now without the cloud package. - You can define areas where motion detection will take place and ignore areas where you don't want motion detection. For me I just use the entire field of view because I'm out in the country and don't need to define a specific area. - The Foscam app for iOS is rated very low on the app store. But my experience so far with the app does not warrant a low rating. I've had no issues with it, although there are some improvements I would like to see. I'll detail those below. - The camera was easy to install and easy to connect to my wireless network on 5G. - All the hardware you need for installation is included. - It supports RTSP streaming and is ONVIF compatible. - The sound to and from the microphone and speaker is pretty good for the device. - You can enable a siren when an alert is triggered, although I'll never use it because I don't need to scare the Amazon driver every time they bring a package. But someone may find a use for it if they don't expect there will ever be a person in the area and they want to try and scare someone away if they do show up. - The spotlights can also be enabled such that when motion is detected they will turn on at night to help light the scene. A couple recommendations for Foscam as improvements. - I've had a couple false detections for a human when there was no human in the field of view. If you can improve the detection algorithms this camera would be even better. But as I said above the detection on this camera is light years ahead of my previous camera. - I would like the Foscam app to be able to allow me to set a notification sound on my iPhone that is different from my other generic notification sounds. I think this can be done by the developer in the app. - Sometimes it takes too long to get an alert notification. I believe this setting can only go as low as one minute, meaning the camera will only send a notification every minute. So if the detect timer is at zero and it detects motion it won't send an alert until that timer reaches 1 minute. If it just so happens that the motion was detected and the timer was at 59 seconds then you get the alert very quickly. I would like the alert immediately no matter what. When motion is detected send an alert immediately. When motion is no longer detected then reset the detect algorithm. I don't care if I get a lot of alerts. But it would be nice to be able to set these values more granular than they allow. All and all this is a great camera for my use case and the price was excellent. The fact that I still get human and vehicle detection without having to use a cloud service is very nice. I'd recommend buying this if you're looking for a security camera that is in a fixed position.

Raises blood pressure to elevated levels
If your network is too secure or if your blood pressure is too low, this camera is for you. It does work with Blue Iris after much cussing and frustration. What you need to know is: set the onvif discovery port to 888 before clicking "find". Oh, there is no http web interface. That would be too convenient. You must sign up for the foscam app, connect it to the cloud, update it, scan the QR code generated on your phone with the camera's screen, let it listen to and transmit the secret "modem" sound coming from your phone, etc while it exfiltrates all of your phone and network settings, wifi password, inventories all of the other devices on your lan, and transmits gps coordinates. I'm sure it is fully secure! (sarcasm). Once you get done with that process, you can set the username and password (to anything but admin, that's not allowed) and then you are a few steps away from being able to throw it in the trash can (I mean add it to Blue Iris) after you enable the NVR and ONVIF options. For some reason if you go to the trouble to put it on an isolated VLAN (which oh my, you should) then you will be unable to make any changes to other settings, like the date/time, WDR, spotlight, audio settings (did I mention the camera talks whenever it does pretty much anything? Yeah, you will want to silence that, unless you want it shouting things randomly when it reboots, at all hours, outdoors, or wherever you have installed it). So it is a good idea to disable the date/time display if using it with Blue Iris, and use the Blue Iris one instead.. One less reason to have to manually reconnect it later. Be sure to save your foscam username/password so you don't lose access to your camera should the need arise at a later time, or you'll be stuck taking it down and undoing the screws to access the reset button. Again, no web interface. After you're all done, be sure to uninstall the foscam app so that your communications and whereabouts are not transmitted to .. wherever this thing goes, probably well out of the reach of US jurisdiction and law. If the whole preceding process doesn't make you wary of this "security device" and its advertisements/cloud dependencies, then the typos and clunky dysfunctional app should put that issue to rest, as it is probably a much better persistent rootkit than camera management software to begin with. In fact, at this point, you should probably snap the phone in half and throw it over a bridge into deep swift moving water just for good measure. Enjoy the video quality though, subsidized by "we need a clear image of invading your privacy" quality electronics. No it's not full color night vision, there's no such thing, but with a porch light on, you'll probably like it. The big boys pull this trick off but that's more than $45 Pros: it is relatively cheap and supports 5ghz wifi; raises your blood pressure if it is medically too low Cons: no POE (not that you need it), no web interface, and a train wreck to configure or secure

Color night vision? Nope. Still a great camera.
As a long-time user of Foscam products, I currently have four Foscam G4 cameras installed around my home. Recently, I decided to add another camera to my setup. Pros: The camera is robustly constructed, much like the G4 model. The image quality has significantly improved, offering clearer visuals, especially when zooming in on the video feed. The setup process was straightforward, consistent with my previous experiences. Additionally, the inclusion of a microphone and speaker is a welcome enhancement. Cons: My primary concern is the misleading advertisement regarding “color night vision.” This camera does not possess true color night vision. While the spotlight feature does provide color images, this is akin to using a flash on a camera and does not constitute genuine night vision. The claims of color night vision are, at best, misleading. Given that the color night vision and improved picture quality were the main selling points for me, I find myself 50% disappointed. Another issue is the AI detection, which remains largely ineffective, similar to its predecessor. The camera frequently generates false alerts. Despite these drawbacks, I still appreciate the camera and believe it is a worthwhile upgrade over the G4, particularly considering its price point. I plan to gradually replace my G4 cameras with this new model.
