Thorough
I'm happy I purchased this version. I know it's about a decade old, but surprisingly it's words still ring true even today! TUFGP is a very thorough and detailed book on how to get you started on the journey of photography explaining everything you need to know. Gear, composition, Buying, How to shop for a camera, you name it the National Geographic's got it all covered for you. I bought this as a suggested reading for the great courses and boy am I glad I did.

Very general
This book would be a good reference to a complete beginner only. It covers many different topics, some of which are interesting, but it covered very little about the more technical aspects of photography for which I was looking. Additionally, it contains long chapters on the history of film and cameras, buying guides for cameras, printers, scanners, software, etc. Although these topics may be interesting to some readers, I don't think they belong in a 'field guide'. Finally, be aware that the entire book is printed on glossy paper, which makes great photos but makes the book quite heavy, also not suitable for a field guide.

The guide falls short on photographic techniques...
The book is good but not as good as previous editions. It lacks the chapters for photographic techniques that the last field guide had. I liked that there is information for the digital darkroom but I wanted more information on how to shoot different activities.

Good starting point for DSLR cameras.
Barely half way through it. It has some good info although somewhat dated but its good enough to get some new ideas and learn some new information. I have been a lightweight photographer most of my life but started getting serious about photography over the past year and a half. For the price it was a good deal and worth more than it costs so I am contented. For less than ten dollars delivered I can say I would recommend this book. Its a good starting point for gathering the knowledge to start getting serious about using a DSLR camera.

5 stelle.

Its noit what it says it is
The National Geographic Ultimate Field Guide to Photography is absolutely not a field guide. A field guide is something you can slip into a pocket and take out while you are photographing "in the field". This is a poorly constructed mixture of very basic photographic advice, skimming the surface of topics, and at least half of it comprises sometimes quite irrelevant photographs. Given what National Geographic could have done, this is a very poor publication.
