I bought this for travel and to use a VPN. So far it has performed well in tests. Using NordVPN I can get 350mbps up and down regularly over wifi and around 400-450mbps over ethernet. It appears to be doing a great job. I also connected a USB drive to the device to test local storage and it worked well. I haven't tested the range yet, but considering it is a travel router, you will probably be fairly close to it anyway.For any connected device that will use the VPN, you have to manually add it under the VPN client profile. It took me a few minutes to figure that out. Also, you can't copy and paste the storage password to allow access to the drive, you have to type it out and then copy and paste.A nice feature is that you can connect a USB modem (4G/5G) or phone to the router and have a dual WAN (backup) configuration. I have only tested it with a wired WAN connection and not using a wifi connection for the WAN as you would on public wifi.You can also power it with a portable power bank if you need to take it on the road. I have not tested this part yet.Overall, for the money, it is a great option for a VPN-capable travel router that is small enough to take with you. As with any router, you need to know how to secure it.

This unit takes a minute to secure its connection to the existing network if using a cell phone, but works beautifully creating a Wi-Fi signal once connected. The existing status of what kind of connection to the network it has made (WAN, Wi-Fi or cell phone), as well as what devices have connected to its own Wi-Fi is well reported in the associated tether app. I wish the documentation explained how to connect it to a network had a little more info for us less technical users. I feel confident I could have a unique and safe Wi-Fi to connect to when away from home.

This will make business travel a lot easier. Now I can connect my laptop to a private wifi network while using the hotel's wifi. My company blocks me from connecting to open networks. This will resolve that issue.The initial setup is definitely a bit more complicated than it needs to be. I tried to use the Tether app but was unsuccessful. I thought it was the work VPN on my phone. Tried my other phone. No luck there. Reset the router, then did the browser approach. That got me connected. Be mindful if you have auto reconnect set to another wifi. That will cause some frustration when this router reboots during setup. You will think something is not working correctly. Work out those connectivity / set up issues, and then we have a 5 star product.

I already have another TP Link router so I was familiar with setting up a router on the Tether app. Setting up this router was just as easy. I am now using a VPN for both routers and the Tether app makes it super easy to set up. You will need to get a token from your VPN provider, but it's a snap. It's fine if you don't use VPN, even easier. This is about as easy as it gets for advanced networking stuff. Highly recommend.

Great portable router for work on the road! Provides all the usual configuration options, and the interface was easy to use. We used this on a trip where we needed to set up our own subnet for work and wanted to access the internet via WiFi. The microSD card is great for providing a filesharing capabililty that works with both Win and macOS machines.

Wow big performance improvement with VPN client connections. Easy to setup VPN Client to connect to NordVPN Wireguard Protocol Supported Servers. Big performance improvement, getting my 5G Home Internet full speed of 300mbps through the VPN connection. Plan to replace my GLiNet and use this as my home VPN router instead. Easy setup and configuration. I'm fairly network savvy and it took me about 5-10 minutes to setup and configure. Very pleased so far. Excellent value for the performance you get and all the features it supports.

Portable router not only fix dead spots in coverage, but also improves the connectivity upstairs. I used my old Samsung S8 phone that I no longer use and connect it via USB tether to the downstair router. The speed and reliability is like night and day.Since I already own an Archer A7 router, it makes sense to add this to the family through the Tether app.
