I might be a fanboy.
It's probably a bit early to be writing this review, and possibly I am not the best person to be doing so. Five days ago I barely knew what a NAS was, But upon that day I received the Ugreen DXP2800 and two Seagate 4TB (3.6TB) NAS (no, I don't know in what way they are different) hard drives. I was expecting a hard time getting the thing working but surprisingly having received it at 7pm, put in the two drives and attached the power supply & ethernet cable, it was powered up by 9pm. Other than the fact that some strange storage pool setup takes well over half a day to complete, it has been running dutifully ever since.I had some trouble understanding how files would actually make their way onto the NAS, but ChatGPT made me realise how simple it was to achieve that, and I have now managed to attach my computers and phones, so that everything uploads automatically. A bonus prize was the realisation that I could access all the files remotely, and that it works magically and flawlessly, although I must admit that I wonder about security in that situation. It has to be said that I know nothing about Docker, what it is or does, and the same can be said about all the other buzzwords that get bandied about by the experts, but I am just very happy to have centralised storage and file access, so perhaps my ignorance will not prove to be any sort of problem. The cost is not low (seems to be good value though), but I am hopeful that longevity and usefulness will win the day.

Easy to Program and get started
I've had a 2 disk Synology for around 5 years. the first few years (as a non IT expert), was getting to know what it can do for a home NAS. Managed to get most things running on my LAN, but remote access (ie outside the home), i never could achieve despite watching various Youtube videos, and even contacting Synology support (not that helpful). However in 2023/24 Synology removed Video Station from its system and this is what i used to watch my films and family videos. I found it impossible to get around this problem. With some trepidation i decided to purchase this Ugreen NAS as recent reports were good. I reused my SATA HD's that were in my Synology (to keep the initial cost down) and started setting up the Ugreen NAS. It took my system 8 hours to sync the drives, but after that i moved over a few films, MP3's and photos to see how it performed. This took around 10 mins and because i had pre-loaded the Ugreen app on my phone I could play it all with hardly any lag, So then tried turning off the wifi on my phone and low and behold everything played as it should (for being outside my LAN). What took me the last 2 years of messing about with Synology and never achieved, I did in 10 mins with Ugreen. Well worth the spend. Functionality for home use is great, it looks well made, little noise and loads quicker than Synology. I believe more updates to come for Ugreen as its quite new to the market, but first impressions are 10/10. RIP Synology.

Great NAS hardware at a good price
Really good NAS with an easy to use OS, simple storage pool setup and great VM and docker support. Set up was quick. The system is slightly noiser than the QNAP TS-251B but is much quicker and has more memory. Adding NVMe drives is easy, as is changing the RAM. Even in the recent mini-heat wave (where ambient hit 30C) the drives stayed around 39-40C whcih seemed reasonable. The native app choice is quite limited but with docker, this isn't really an issue. I use docker for Emby as the main media server so don't know how the native apps compare but Emby was a really easy install.I bought it at a reduced price and for c. £260 I don't think there is a better NAS chassis available...

Great hardware, limited software, overall great buy!
Bought this as my first ever dedicated NAS hardware, having previously rolled my own. Hardware quality seems very good with an all metal body and even a removable magnetic dust filter. Overall the design choices made give the impression of a high end piece of hardware. The software is very beginner friendly and even includes a very slick phone and desktop app for all OS’s. However if you are coming with experience of NAS OS’s it will become clear the included UGOS is quite limited. The great news is you can change the OS very easily, so I now have it running truenas scale and it’s been going great for the last few weeks!
