Consistent cleaning is definitely required
This dog water fountain lasted almost three years to the day before the motor finally stopped working. While I appreciate the longevity, I am still alarmed by the internal state of the unit. I was extremely consistent with cleaning and regular filter changes, yet when I opened it up, the bacterial buildup was significant. If you are comfortable replacing the unit every few years, this might be a decent option, but the hygiene issues leave me hesitant to recommend it

Best Large Dog Fountain on the Market
This is actually the second time we have purchased the PetSafe Drinkwell 2-gallon fountain. Our old one died after close to a decade, which woke up with the most terrible screeching sound as it died. We were surprised this pet fountain lasted this long, especially with two giant Alaskan Malamutes constantly drinking out of it, abusing it, and us accidentally letting the fountain run out of water sometimes (you know, since it makes the most terrible sound when this happens. Hoping to get something cheaper, we tried another PetSafe fountain (which had a water basin that was too small) and other cheaper ones, but we gave up and just went back to our tried and true fountain. It isn't the best looking out there, but it's a workhorse. We love this water fountain so much because it has an enormous basin for holding water and high walls to keep your dogs from making a huge mess. This is important when you have two dogs drinking at the same time. Sure, they still find ways to get water out of the fountain, but this is what silicone pet mats are made for (which we have under the fountain). Also, the fountain is easy to clean, the two filters are inexpensive in bulk (and have many knock-offs that work), and it honestly just lasts. One of the changes they made since we purchased it last was the motor not being as enclosed, which is good since you can take it apart and clean it. This means fewer motor replacements (this was the only part other than filters that needed replacement three times over the life of our old fountain). I will only warn people that the fountain isn't quiet (which I know bothers some people). I like the sound of running water, so this doesn't bother me, but it can be picked up on conference calls if you are in the same room as the fountain. This is one of the reasons we have it in a hallway (or bathroom doesn't have an easy access outlet). That being said, even with its basic look and natural noise, it is the best fountain for large dogs on the market.

Effective for drinking more water
ABOUT THE CATS: I have four rescue cats ranging in age from two to seven years, all have been born on my apartment deck throughout that time. One, Apollo, was abandoned by his mother in the middle of a thunderstorm started having chronic constipation about six months ago. He doesn't like the sound of running water from the faucet and will run and hide. Last week after two vet visits and a bill of $500, they suggested getting a fountain. I was skeptical at first but strangely enough, he was the first to examine the fountain and drink after sitting and staring at it for several minutes. He prefers to drink from the water coming from the spout which I have set to half the full flow and appears to be drinking more. My youngest cat, two-year old Gypsy, will play with the water coming from the spout, batting and biting it then doing that foot shakey dance. ABOUT THE FOUNTAIN: The fountain is all plastic with the exception of the pump. Very easy to assemble the one-piece base to the other pieces. Make sure to wash everything in hot water and mild wish detergent, (I used dawn) to remove any mold release agents from the manufacturing process. I bought a box of each of the two filters for changing when the time comes. I was told by a friend to disassemble and wash once or twice a week. Kind of treat it like you would clean a fish tank. I keep it filled within a half inch of the to edge. Overall I am very happy so far.

Accepted by picky paranoid cats!
I have some seriously picky and probably paranoid cats. I think we’ve finally picked the right water fountain. We had a ceramic one that was too heavy to pick up and clean weekly for the human, and they also get dirty even with bottled water. Then, there was the stainless steel fountain that NO ONE would go near because of those funhouse cat faces staring back at them. Nope, not tricking them into the dark side! Then there was the black plastic one that was (according to the cats) probably the monolith from 2001 Space Odyssey that was definitely created to capture the feline species and hurl them into an unknown void. Nope, not going there either. So, the human servant found the nice grey plastic square Lloyd-Wright design that was not quite instantly approved but has been accepted by the picky trio! At last! Nice fountain, easy to put together but I would triple rinse the filter with all the carbon in it. We had a large PetSafe fountain many years ago and had to part with it because the old guy who was a young guy destroyed it. It was his personal water park. Therefore, the floor stayed wet from his attacks. Now, he’s old and this one seems safe. The fountain works great so far. It is lightweight and easy to take apart to clean, the flow adjustment is a nice feature. It can splatter if it’s set too forceful. So far, so good. I think with regular maintenance, filter replacements and pump cleaning it should last a long time…they will let me know if their acceptance changes. I think we got a winner!

Two years in and I love this fountain anew every day
We have used this PetSafe fountain for almost 2-1/2 years and I am surprised every day when I rinse out and refill how perfectly happy I am with it. Every morning I disconnect the fountain mid-cord (no hassling with an outlet), take it into the bathroom where I dump it in the sink, wipe the basin out with a Kleenex, and refill it from the Brita pitcher we keep ready on the vanity. Reconnect as easily as the disconnect and -- Voila! Fresh water for the kitties in five minutes while getting ready for work. Once a week I take it apart and wash it thoroughly. Again, easy peasy. As I disassemble the fountain I drop the pieces in a large plastic bowl filled with hot water and Dawn. (The only even slightly difficult part is taking apart the filter housing and the siphon tube -- both of which are readily accomplished with a gentle twist of the edge of a table knife.) I wash and rinse the basin completely then reassemble, taking each piece from the soapy bowl, rinsing, and putting back in place. The filter is nearly silent and keeps the water reasonably clean with daily dump-and-wipes. I've found that charcoal filter changing times depend completely on the brand used. Our PetSafe fountain serves three cats, all of whom are drinking significantly more water than when we used a bowl. We purposely chose a modest fountain size, knowing that we wanted to give our cats fresh water daily. This fountain isn't flashy or fancy, but as far as I'm concerned it's perfect all ways around. [A tip for ultimate ease of connecting/disconnecting the fountain's power cord for cleaning: Command clothespin style spring clips have the perfect channel diameter for threading it through to raise the connector unit to a convenient height on a wall or cabinet.]

Great fountain for your fur babies.
This is a must. The water circulates the water and it has a filter. The cats love it as they are now not drinking out of the sink. (Had to let water run for 2 of the cats they are weird) but this is the 2nd bought for our house. Now everyone uses it. The dogs and the cats.

Great product for multiple dogs and great customer service!!!
I've had this fountain for 5 months. I have 3 dogs who love to drink a lot so I got the 2 gallon version. I take it apart to clean every week to 10 days and replace both filters every 2 weeks (the foam filter doesn't need to be changed as often per the recommendation but mine gets yellow and furry so I'd rather just change them both). The filters aren't extremely expensive like some other fountains I've seen. This morning the pump wasn't working. I called customer service and they were friendly and very informative. They walked me through taking apart the pump which I hadn't realized came apart. I was just cleaning it on the outside and soaking sometimes. Needless to say it was nasty!!! They stayed on the phone with me telling me step by step to take it apart and to clean in a vinegar and water mixture. When I was looking for something to help me clean the little nooks and crannies, she mentioned that there is a fountain cleaning kit with brushes to help with all of that. I will be buying that now! Overall I'm very happy with my purchase!

Uh - okay, it Works
So-it does what it's supposed to. It has a huge capacity water dish, a super small pump that pulls water through a debris filter, pushes it up through a charcoal activated filter and fills a small dish/reservoir at the top. Then it flows through a small spout and creates flowing water. A little bit of a hum/vibration (plastic on plastic or tile, we tried it on a mat, still the noise.) The real issue is the cleaning. It's easy, but takes 10-15 minutes, not really long, but a bowl is so easy-guess I'm getting lazy. They made it easy, the tube is actually two halves, so you don't have to use a bottle type brush. The foam debris filter and charcoal filter last maybe a month, so there's a recurring cost. Just know what you're getting. We're going to give ours away.

Buen producto
Me gustó mucho, estaba teniendo problemas con el bebedero tradicional y este me ayudó a que no se formen mosquitos ya que el agua esté siempre limpia y en movimiento. Además la forma es muy amigable con las mascotas.
