WOW.
So, i've had this external HDD for a few years now. I bought it to have an external system image in case of tech issues that need the OS to load from outside my laptop. And I held onto it too long before using it, and was beyond the return window so when i went to create the system image, it told me my system image was too large, to delete files, etc. I ended up saying f it and just saving my personal files on it, then putting it away as it was pretty useless. Now, FIVE years later, I was shopping for a 1 TB external HDD and saw this listing again, with my previous purchase shown at the top. I dug mine up to format it and try again.... And this time i noticed it said it was only 32 GB. What??? I checked, and rechecked, and checked again... i bought a TB. I looked at the serial number sticker on the back... 1TB. What on earth?? So after FIVE years of owning this thing, and barely using it because of lack of space (or so I thought), I did a quick google "1 TB external hdd showing 32 gb" and lo and behold, I just had to download an app real quick to expand the partition. EYEROLL. Oh boy... anyway.. it's like I have a brand new external HDD with an image backup. Better late than never, I suppose.

Looks cool, works fine, packaging hard to open...
3-24-2014, RevB.Looks cool, works fine, packaging is hard to open...I was being extremely careful, despite this, I managed to ketch the edge of the HD cover and now it doesn't sit flat.I can't see how a 5600RPM HD (slow), could have speeds faster that ~100MB/s, even when on USB3 - as reported by others here???ATTO Disk benchmark reports (USB3): ~107MB/s - about what's expected. My fast HD* using my MB's SATA2 (300MB/s), is not limited to SATA2 speeds, but to the HD transfer speed off the disk. Per WD data, the true HD speed is 135MB/s, and I get 125-140MB/s, using ATTO. Using this data point, it seems like ATTO is providing the correct speed on the (the reviewed) Toshiba drive. My conclusions:Its fine for use intended - Making a backup of my primary HD. It is slightly slower than the WD Blue HD (WD10EZEX), using an USB3 enclose, when doing the same backups via the same USB3 connection. Unfortunately this disk died (why I bought the Toshiba BU drive).---------------------------------------------------------* Western Digital WD1002FAEX Caviar Black) speeds.I have two separate PCIe cards providing USB3.0:-- #1 card, PCIe2.0, x4 USB3 2 port card, includes SATA3 (not used, HD too slow).-- #2 card, PCIe2.0, x1 USB3 4 port card (2 external) card. Both are the same speed for this Toshiba drive. For other devices, I get different speeds up to 150MB/s. As such, I only trust up to 150MB/s. I forgot the brands of the cards.ATTO reports, on USB2.0 (MB), 32MB/s (avg between read/ write speeds), this is about 480mb/s, I think. My computer:HP-Elete-8000. 3.33GHz duel core, 16GB RAM, Windows 7Pro. WD Caviar Black 1TB, All software (drivers) is up to date.

1TB for just about $60 why not...
My CD burner died and I had a ton of files I needed to back up - computer has been acting like it wants to go belly up for a while (runs XP so yeah it's old). So I needed it backed up before I lost everything. Was thinking of getting several thumb drives but for the price there was no way I'd pass up this drive.I've only had it for a couple weeks, but thus far I'm suppppppppppppperrrrrrrrrr happy with it. I've been able to dump a lot of files from my computer onto the drive, freeing up a couple hundred gig - I've got photo folders that are more than 10 gig each so burning them to CD just wasn't a viable option - even if the burner was working. Though, it claims to be a 1TB drive, due to the software already loaded it is more like 970GB, just saying.Didn't have to download any software (from cd), all it took was plugging in the drive and turning on the computer, click one (maybe two) ok prompts and it was loaded in all of maybe 2 min. It took all of an hour to one shot bulk transfer nearly 350 gig worth of data (music, video, pic and data files). Even trying to transfer 10 gig onto a thumb drive use to take longer than that. Not only are my files now safely backed up, but they are easily transferred to the laptop without any hassle. No more bouncing between multiple thumb drives trying to find one or two files, no more fumbling thru CDs trying to find what I'm looking for, now it is all in one convenient place.Only negative I have with the drive, is it easily shows fingerprints on the case. I love the sleek metallic black look, but even the slightest touch leaves marks that look bad. So I constantly have to wipe off prints.

Me super encantó.
