Why does this food have so much more protein when compared to the dry renal food and other wet renal diets?

I would assume it is from the salmon/seafood content. But it was an excellent product for my dog Babe when she started having kidney disease. She almost made it to 19 and this product helped more than other prescription kidney based foods. When she passed it was from another cause of seizure and aspiration of something to her lungs...she just couldn't recover at the hospital.

May I also suggest, along with this product, trying green tripe, another alternative over some of the other prescription kidney care products. In particular, if you are having issues of palatable rejection of these prescription foods over time.

I would mix it up for my dog initially with various foods both commercial, prescription and sometimes home prepared. But over time this product and green tripe were the winners and the primary steady diet I found that worked.
In extensive reading on this subject over time, the protein content is a little overstated and some clinical papers seem to support the view. Anyway, the main goal was food intake and water consumption initially to trigger appetite (unsalted fries worked great initially for that process)...with other adjustments of ingredients secondary. With this process and Forza 10 and green tripe (small trays available from two manufacturers, she maintained a stable weight (about 5% below her normal) until the end.  I hope this helps with your care.

p.s. don't let people complaining about smell of green tripe keep you from trying it. It is not as bad as some make it out to be and dogs like it.

Feeding instructions

The feeding instructions on the pouch are somewhat confusing. We continued with the same amount of food that we used to feed previously with a different canned food. The 18 lbs dogs are getting 250 grams which are 2 1/2 pouches twice a day. The 25 lbs dog gets 3 pouches twice a day. They all get additionally 30 grams of mashed sweet potatoes in the morning.
