It's smooth when reeling on the hose and it works just as one hose reel should work. However... You need to be careful what hose you're putting on. Inner quick connect fitting and the opening for it could be small for any 'odd' hose you might have. I have flexzilla 5/8" hose with it's own quick release and I was unable to connect it as the non-kink/bend part extends longer than the opening is.
