## Description

PPUK Floating Plants 1 Large Bunch Hornwort Fast Growing Aquarium x 5 | Floating pond plant · Surface cover and shade · Never release to the wild · Fast Growing : desertcart.co.uk: Pet Supplies

## Features

- Ceratophyllum demersum, or hornwort, is a fast-growing aquarium plant with fine whorled stems. It takes up the nutrients algae feed on, which makes it a useful choice for a newly set up tank.
- Supplied weighted, ready to drop in. Area/Height: Background up to 120cm --- Important!!! Should not be burried to the substrate as will rot. Must be left float or tied to a rock, wood or any other object that sinks.
- LIGHT AND TEMPERATURE: Strong / 1-28 degrees C — both sit within the range of a standard tropical community setup, so no specialist lighting or heating is needed.
- GROWTH AND pH: very fast / 6-9 — a wide tolerance that suits soft and hard water areas alike, so in most tap-water tanks no adjustment is needed.
- Water softness/CO2: Soft to very hard / 10-20 mg/l. Floating plants multiply across the surface, so expect to thin them by hand. Surface cover reduces the light reaching algae growing below.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Which live aquarium plants are best for beginners?**
A: Java Fern, Anubias barteri and Elodea densa are the easiest. All three tolerate low light, need no CO₂, and can be tied to wood or rock rather than planted into substrate.

**Q: Are live plants safe for goldfish and coldwater tanks?**
A: Yes. Elodea densa, hornwort and Java Fern all grow in unheated tanks from about 15°C. Goldfish graze soft-leaved stems, so Anubias and Java Fern last longer in a goldfish tank.

**Q: What lighting do aquarium plants need?**
A: Most need moderate lighting for 6–8 hours a day. Low-light plants such as Anubias barteri and Java Fern manage on less; high-light stems need a stronger LED unit to stay compact.

**Q: What substrate is best for planted aquariums?**
A: Nutrient-rich aquasoil or a planted-tank substrate. Root feeders such as Echinodorus bleheri do best with root tabs pushed in near the roots; Java Fern and Anubias need no substrate at all.

**Q: Why are my aquarium plants turning yellow or melting?**
A: Usually the change of water conditions after transit, or a nutrient gap. Trim off melted leaves, keep lighting steady at 6–8 hours and new growth normally follows within two to three weeks.
