Black Vox Voice Activated Digital Audio Recorder Internal Mic

UPDATE: After posting this last month with only 2 stars, customer service called me IMMEDIATELY! I didn't even leave a message. I just thought I would call back on the next business day, but they got back to me even sooner. They quickly sent out a replacement and put me in touch with IT to see what the issues are. Apparently, one has to delete the files from the computer itself or the device continues to recognize them and stores them...So one of the issues was a lack of space problem on the unit...It's quite difficult to know that on a MAC. Once I did that, things seemed a lot better and information was not lost. I am currently working with IT to resolve other issues, and I am grateful that they reached out. What a great company! The unit records clearly with segments so you don't have to listen to 5 hours at a sitting and also plays on iTunes as opposed to VLC. It is very easy to use...I'm hoping that the date and time can be adjusted for a MAC. Fingers crossed! I have upgraded the review to reflect all!

I love this little black Vox recorder it’s easy to use but my co-worker complains about the issues he has when using with a MAC but those issues happen with all devices when connected to a Mac, the same issues never happen with Windows, I use the Black Vox with Windows for offloading the files, it works seamlessly.Pros: Easy to use - Push the button and you know it's on. Plug it into your computer and listen to the recordings.High quality microphone - The mic seems to pick up everything and the recordings are very clear, we tested it on 5/15/30 feet it is extremely clear.Time stamp - You can set the time stamp of the recordings to match your computer, instructions say you can only do this on a Windows PC, cannot do this on a MAC.Sensitivity control - You can change how much noise there has to be to start the voice activated recording, again, you can only adjust this using a Windows PC.Cons: Time stamp - If you only have a Mac, you can't set the time stamp. Best solution is to configure on a windows PC, this is just one of those annoying MAC issues unfortunately.One other note for Mac users. When you delete files from USB drives on a Mac, they're not really gone and the space on the USB drive doesn't reduce until you empty the Trash (hidden files). When the Black Vox fills up with recordings, it obviously can't record anymore until recordings are deleted. So, be careful if you use a Mac because deleting them won't clear up space as the MAC just hides the files unless you empty the trash, again, another annoying protocol of MAC which had my co-worker stumped for a little while.I also noticed that it won't record while plugged into a computer, I contacted the seller about this and they explained it is built for covert placement and not to be hooked up to a PC, so if you want it to be charging and recording at the same time, this is not the solution, they said the purpose of the long life battery is to be placed in areas where the device can operate for an extended period in a covert location, under a car seat or magnetically attached to an office table, etc.I would definitely recommend this product but I am a Windows user and it works seamlessly for me, the issues my MAC using colleague found are just consistent Mac issues which can be experienced with any number of USB storage devices when using a MAC.9.5/10 for Windows7/10 for MAC

I used it to record in my car. Someone broke in a couple of times. I also used video on my home.

Works great so far. I agree with the Mac owners about the time and date stamp being unavailable unless you hook up to a PC (not something everyone has). I am not sure how to organize each download in iTunes either. I sure do wish the could get a PDF instruction guide for everything on PC and Mac.. The thing works GREAT though use wise and sound wise.

Unlike so many cheap voice recorders out there, this one is what the professionals use. The recording quality is excellent and it picks up conversations from far away. I got the extended mic version which makes it easy to be very discreet. Very easy to use. I know when it’s activated and I don’t need to worry about it running out of batteries or recording space. I’m not very technical so I was worried about listening to the recordings and setting the time stamp on the recordings but the instructions were clear and easy to follow. I’ll be recommending this to all my colleagues.

I got this because It said it could capture conversations from 28 feet away. I needed it from 5-25 feet away. It recorded conversations from 5 feet away with no problem. When I tested it at 25 feet, it wouldn’t start recording. After checking the manual, I realized I could change the sensitivity to start recording at lower noise levels. So, I set it to the highest sensitivity (+2) and it picked up the conversations from 25 feet away.

DON'T BUY THE CHEAP ONE THEY DON'T WORK AS THIS ONE!!! VERY CLEAR AND BATTERY LAST !!!!
