Working w/ Baofeng UV-82 ...
This cable is working great for capturing audio on a specific frequency I have set up. I run the audio output into a voice recorder so I can log all transmissions and review them later. Everything is functioning as expected with my Baofeng UV-82, and it’s been a reliable setup so far. I will update this review if anything changes.

APRS Cable
New android phone, so I needed a new cable to play APRS.

No issues for APRS
Worked for my Baofeng 5RM and direwolf on a Linux box to get on APRS. I’ve read other reviews about the issues with squelch and VOX but I didn’t have that problem at all. Once I got everything configured it was plug and play. Looking back I would have got the more expensive cable with PTT but oh well.

Works great
Works great, wonderful for on the go digital modes.

Works good for FLDIG/APRS applications, but requires settings knowledge.
If you are using this for fldigi or aprs, set vox delay to the shortest amount of time possible on your radio, and turn off ctcss/dcs at least for RX (and turn off squelch) (although I do most packet/digi on simplex only) Also, be sure you have your audio settings correctly on your computer. Either way, works really good with fldigi/flarq so far, have sent radio emails and images as well. QSSTV also works really good with this. But once again, make sure you have everything set up right. Personally I will say, I prefer a digirig mobile + digirig cables but this is a cheaper more simple to set up alternative for less computer nerdy people.

Great, what else to say!?
Love this cable! It's to use on most of my HT's, I've been doing sstv for 2meters and using my phone now onto the tablet. If your looking for a great cable for the price this is it!

Good cable hamstung by radio
1. The cable is made well and no issues with the cable itself.2. The cable's use is very limited by the radio if you want to do APRS doing both transmission and reception. If you want to do one or the other the cable works great. If you just want to be a beacon it works fine, if you want to just see what assets are around again the cable works fine. You just can do both. Here is the reason whyThe cable is audio only so you have to use VOX if you want to transmit. If you want to transmit put VOX on 2 and the radio will transmit fine. Warning be careful sending email or text via APRS. The receiving station will send back a confirmation but the Baofeng will not properly hear the confirmation and depending on your software it may try to send the message again. To get a Baofeng to receive APRS consistently you need to turn off power savings and turn off squelch. If you turn off squelch VOX does not work, so no transmission. You need to turn off squelch because most Baofengs are not quick enough with the squelch on to get the first part of the packet and APRS is all or nothing when it comes to a packet. So because of the radio you can receive or transmit not both using this cable.

Works most of the time with APRSDroid after modifications
I was looking for a cheaper alternative to use APRS on handheld Ham radios (HT) utilizing my cellphone. This USB -c model seemed promising, but when I first connected everything, I noticed that the unit kept lowering the volume on my phone and causing the HT to lock up while transmitting. This would continue until I disconnected and then reconnected everything. After a few iterations, the unit will finally start working (after you ensure the volume on your phone is turned back up), until you transmit a few times. Additionally, only about 5% of the transmissions were being received according to APRS.FI. This was all frustrating, to say the least!Light at the end of the tunnel:While preparing to return this item and looking at the more expensive alternatives, I noticed the other units had ferrite chokes on their lines. Therefore, in one last-ditch effort, I ordered some 5mm chokes and placed 4 on the lines (as shown in the picture). THIS WAS THE GAME CHANGER! The successful transmission rate is about 85%, and the volume/lock-up issue happens far less frequently. Hope this helps and good luck!73
