My son is 22 months old but is 32 lb and 36" tall. He's in the 96th percentile for height and weight for his age, so I'm usually stuck dresseing him in ill-fitting clothes that are sized 3T-4T. However, I wanted this swimsuit to look like the old muscle beach suits that weight lifters of the 1920's & 1930's would wear, so I decided to try the 24 month size in hopes that it would be snug without giving him a wedgie or pinching his belly every time I zipped it. Well- it's perfect!! It fits like a glove and he will even have a little room to grow over the summer. Plus, the front crotch area is designed not to cut into them in that notoriously uncomfortable way- the way women in much-too-tight yoga pants seem to not be bothered by, if you catch my drift..
