Compilation of 25 of the greatest football matches ever played, presented by John Motson and including England's 1966 World Cup Final victory, Arsenal's 2-0 defeat of Liverpool in 1989, and England's 5-1 defeat of Germany in the 2001 World Cup qualifier.

Too ambitious and not enough depth
This dvd certainly covers what many would consider to be among the greatest football matches ever played but, unfortunately, it confirms my long held suspicion about these kind of compilations, that is that they try to pack in too much in the way of 'highlights' and in doing so you never feel you get a real sense of the game that was played.Goals are fine. Everyone wants to see them and they are undoubtedly almost always the climax of a great game. But unless one is given a sense of the changing patterns of a game, the ebbs and flows, and maybe some insightful commentary or analysis to go with it, one never feels satisfied with goals, goals, goals. I would say you need at least 10 minutes coverage of a game to get this 'feel' I'm talking about.Otherwise, John Motson does a good job of covering some well worn ground.

They think it's all over. It is now!
Superb selection of highlights of 25 classic football matches as commentator John Motson counts down the best 25 matches in football history including the 1966 World Cup Final and including England's 5-1 defeat of Germany in 2001 and Arsenal's last gasp win against Liverpool in 1989. Can you guess what the best match is? Pretty obvious when you think about it.
