Like a scale but more stressful!
Want to add stress to your espresso making? I’ve got the product for you! I would love to hear someone’s technique for using this for making espresso, maybe I was expecting too much? I wanted something to time from first drops to end…and of course the coffee extracted weight. I believe I have the process down for that but… I like to flush some water from group head before pulling a shot, so I do that before scale is setup. Process for scale is; turn on, double click power to get into smart mode, put scale under group head, put cup on scale hit “T” to tare out and “arm” timer. By this time group head has reheated the water (electrically heated) but hit flow button…it starts timing on first drops, but will never stop, UNLESS I lift cup when last drop are done. Here’s the catch, it clears out weight. Ugh… too complicated &/or I don’t have the procedure down correctly. Going back to my manual timer scale…

Highly responsive customer support. The product meets its purpose.
This scale is very compact and offers a wide weight measurement range. I even weighed a powdered dietary supplement to see how it handles very small incremental measurements and adjustments, and it handled that very well. The top portion of the plastic case is seamless, with its touch controls protected under the surface so spills cannot seep into buttons or crevices’ and potentially cause issues. However, one of the on/off switches (there are two of them) and the charging port, which is covered by a well-fitting, protective silicone flap is located on the side of the unit, so there is a possibility of liquids seeping into them should a spill happen and not be immediately noticed and cleaned up. Its shape provides solid stability, so it won’t tip, and I find it to be "functionally attractive". I like the wide, non-slip silicone strips on the bottom of it and the removable silicone protector, which must be placed on the top of it to protect the plastic housing of the scale when hot items are set on it. The unit seems to be made of durable weight material, which should handle *reasonable* use. What I don’t like: the controls *are not* intuitive and the enclosed instruction manual, while no doubt it makes sense to the product designers/testers for whom it was clearly written, states “the following steps and data are test data for reference only. The specific data may change according to the actual operation.” The manual provides illustrations and instruction specific to the steps for brewing, but it fails to reasonably explain simple things such as how to reset weight (tare) or change the unit measure from grams to ounces. While also not explained on *this* particular Amazon listing, both are addressed on another (ASIN: B0D3TJ8GHW), which is for the identical product model number shown here. (2/24/25 Update: their customer support team proactively reached out to me after reading this review and said that they're working on producing a more informative/user friendly manual and also answered a question that I had about the reason for the dual on/off switch product design.) Should you also want to know: To reset the loaded weight of your vessel/measuring device to zero (“tare”), tap once on the on/off button. To change the unit measure from grams to ounces, double tap on the timer button which is marked “T.” So, is it charged or not? Unlike my other rechargeable devices, there is no indicator by which to "at a glance" know when the device is fully charged such as colored light, so it requires babysitting it to know when to unplug it from the power source. As with any device/machine that is powered by a lithium battery, I think it's important to be able to quickly and easily see when it is fully charged, so I can immediately unplug it and lessen any potential of overheating. It has both a sliding power switch on its side and an on/off touch button on the top. Turning it off by the side switch prevents it from being accidentally turned on when you're not intending to use it for an extended time, so saves on battery life per charge. When it is expected to be intermittently used over an extended time (i.e., during the workday), leaving the side switch on and as needed utilizing the on/off touch button located on the top is most convenient. Overall, it will certainly accomplish the job for which it is intended, isn't bulky and looks nice. I could get used to what to me is 'quirkiness', but I don’t find sufficient additional functionality in it over what I've been using, so this will for me function as a backup.

Accurate, and essential for discerning coffee aficionado and study-group-bound college student alike
This scale is the type of product that you don't realize you need until you have it. Let's get the important details out of the way. First, it's rechargeable. No more hunting for/buying AA or AAA batteries! Next, it is accurate to the tenth of a gram, which is perfect. Accuracy to the hundredth would be overkill, and accuracy to merely the gram would be worthless. Of course you can switch between ounces and grams, too. The device is mostly waterproof; just don't get water into the charging port (unlikely because it has a well-sealing cover) or into the base. Just don't immerse the thing in a sink of water and you'll be fine. Finally, the scale comes with directions on how to use it effectively, but there are tons of tutorial videos online as well. Now, why use a scale? Having the right ratio of water to ground coffee is essential in creating your perfect cup. Beans vary wildly in their mass, even when they measure the same in volume. If you measure your coffee and water scientifically and get the ration down (yes, this scale gives you your ratio), then you can re-create your best coffee experience with consistency. The timer setting of this scale is so you can time the grinding to get the amount that you want into your portafilter. No more guesswork! I hope this review has been helpful, and I highly recommend this scale. It would make a wonderful, thoughtful gift for the coffee lover in your life (even if that coffee lover is yourself).

Accurate, repeatable, fast-responding coffee scale - I like it
This does not fit inside the base of a Flair Neo Flex. It is too big by just fractions of an inch. Despite this, it is a very fast-responding, accurate, repeatable, and useful coffee scale. I like that it does not wander over time (my previous scale would drift up by about 3.5g if left over a period of time) and it weighs the same item at exactly the same weight over and over again, which my previous scale did not. It responds fast enough to work perfectly for pouring beans or water. I really like the smart mode, which can be used for either pour-overs or espresso. Once enabled, smart mode automatically records your weight of beans and automatically starts the brew clock when it detects water entering the brew. It does not start when you put the V60 or empty espresso cup on it. It somehow knows the difference. So, it makes it a hands-free experience to simultaneously weigh and time a shot or a pour. I like that, since with my lever espresso machine starting the timer by hand is one less thing I have to do all at once when starting the shot. Even though it doesn't fit inside the frame of my Flair Neo Flex, I still use it for espresso since it is thin enough to put it on top of two stone coasters that do fit inside the frame and still get an espresso cup under the portafilter.
