The rest of the file folder is approx 1/4" thick and I'm guessing the bottom is the same. Here's a caveat - if you are using it for 3rd cut file folders, note that they go in sideways. The result is that your files spill out of the open side. It's a great folder for magazines, though. **Q: Can these be stained to make them darker?** A: You might need to sand. It's very smooth and hard on the outside which makes me think there's a very thin, almost undetectable, urethane coating. It's defintely not obviously porous. Good luck! **Q: Can this fit 10” x 13” envelopes?** A: The file folder is 10" deep as measured on the outside.
