Raffi's hilarious version of the classic song about strange events that happen down by the bay, where the watermelons grow... Singing supports and encourages even the youngest child's speech and listening skills, which makes Down by the Bay perfect for early learning. In this friendly board book edition, irresistible art by Nadine Bernard Westcott depicts wonderfully amusing creatures such as a bear combing his hair, a goose kissing a moose, and a whale with a polka-dot tail. Very young children will find this book both entertaining and instructive in early language skills such as rhyme, rhythm, and repetition, and will delight in hearing it read or sung aloud to them. Review: Great for grades 1 to 3 with cute illustrations. A classic, in my opinion. - I remember this book from when I was a new teacher in 1997. The kids loved this book when sung outloud. So I liked that it had the notes to the tune on the last page. At the time, I was working with 1st and 2nd graders. However, this could be read independently for grades up to 3 at least as it has compound words and multi-syllable words (such as watermelons, polka-dot tail, combing, llamas, pajamas" as well as one-syllable words that might be tough (i.e., blouse, rhyme). Cute illustrations. Review: A fun read for many ages - I got this board book on the recommendation of another mom. I didn’t realize it was a song, but now we’ve found the song and enjoy it too! The illustrations and the lyrics are amusing enough most of my kids (10 and under) love looking through and reading it! Their favorite part is llamas in pajamas!

The best
Raffi’s books are so magical and your baby/toddler will love singing to his songs. My son has all his series and reads them multiple times a day! If you’re unfamiliar with his songs you can watch his YouTube videos or concerts and sing to your little darling

Fun Song Well Written & Illustrated
The book is written as a story, but it's also a song! (Check YouTube) My grandchildren love it. And they live near a bay! When they saw the bay for the first time, my grandson asked, "Where are the watermelons?" Haha!

My daughter’s favorite
My daughter runs to me with this book; she loves it so much. I love the colors and the silly rhymes within the book. She can point and name things from the book now, and it's so adorable!
