It is the year 2032 A.D. Like a Phoenix, the city of MegaTokyo is rising from the ashes of a devastating earthquake. In the twisted canyons of the megalopolis, the Knight Sabers, a small band of high tech mercenaries, fight a lonely battle against the evil GENOM Corporation and it's sinister androids, the Boomers. Venture into an all too probable future, where technology has run amuck, and emotion is all that separates Man from Machine. Review: Bubble Gum Crisis forever! - Fantastic master of the cult classic. One of my favorite all time anime OVAs. The art and amazing music is timeless. I just wish they were able to properly finish this amazing series. I know BBC 2040 was a good remake with an actual ending but it doesnโt have the grit or soundtrack of this original. This one will always be my number one. Itโs hard to top the opening scene with Konwa ya hurricane. Epic. Review: One of my favorite anime, now on Blu-ray. - I've bought before the original DVD's and the remasters. I love AnimEigo's collection of anime they have. Furthermore, I finally got the money to buy this Blu-ray collection. Now before this one disc set, AnimEigo had the Ultimate three disc limited editions. It came with all kinds of extras on the other discs such as the comics, books, pictures, music, interviews and so on. The one disc set was made for the budget minded people like myself who just wants to watch the eight episodes, either Japanese with English subtitles or English Dub. But it comes with two galleries of pictures. I prefer to watch anime in Dub form. Either good or bad. However, the English Dub of Bubblegum Crisis is still fantastic, as many fans said the voice-overs fit the characters they portray as well as the English Dub Music. All the actors are still working today. Some of them, I found on YouTube, such as the actor who voiced Leon, still has the same voice today. OVA, aka Original Video Animation. The show is about the Knight Sabers, who wear hard suits, fight Genom, a corrupt organization who creates boomers, artificial beings who look like humans, with some wanting to hurt humanity. The leader of the group is Sylia, the biker Priss, the all around girl Linna, computer hacker and cop, Nene. They are aided by AD Police officer Leon as well as their allies. Genom is led by Quincy. Another Genom employee, Brian J Mason, is responsible for the many deaths in Tokyo. Eventually, the Knight Sabers stop his reign. But he returns as a boomer called Largo. Again they stop him. Their other adventures are against a deranged driver wanting to kill bikers, an obsessed girl who's twin sister was killed by boomers, a rogue Genom employee trying to make a name for himself as well as a vampire boomer, trying to live a normal life with her friend, whom she has to kill in order to save her. The characters are all fantastic. Sylia is the beautiful leader, smart, intelligent, and shy. Linna, a tom boy like Priss, gossips, flirts with men but unable to stay hooked to one, but is the all around nice girl in the group. Nene, the weakest member of the group in the beginning, works the AD Police as a cop and rides along with Leon. Priss is the biker girl. She helps and defends the poor, homeless, and weak. She hates the AD Police for not helping her find her boyfriend's killer. But eventually she likes Leon, the AD's second in command officer. Their relationship grows close and in the official soundtrack, Priss confesses her love to Leon and accepts him as her boyfriend. But in the sequel, Bubblegum Crash, there is no mention of their relationship until the very end, when she makes Leon take her and her friends for lunch. The show is also known for its soundtrack. The English music is one of the best music in anime. The English rock music is fantastic. You can find the English unofficial music on YouTube. If you were to watch in order, first watch AD Police Files, Bubblegum Crisis and finally, Bubblegum Crash. There was another prequel called Parasite Dolls, but it isn't good like the other three OVA's, and it's rare to find. There was a remake called Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040. I didn't like the remake. The Blu-ray disc has excellent picture and audio. If you want to grab the extras, such as the comics, pictures and PDF RPG books, type in animeigo wiki on your web browser, and you'll find the official site with tons of free stuff. The subtitles on the other hand are sometimes wrong. Wish the company had made sure the subtitles were looked over before. I watch my movies and shows without them. In the end, I bought the Blu-ray. It contains the eight episodes. I love Blu-ray over DVD because the disc will last a long time as DVD's, once they're scratched or damaged, are gone unless you own an expensive disc repair system or know a place who resurfaces discs. Besides, one Blu-ray disc is better than the four discs that the DVD remastered had, as they only had two episodes on one disc. If you love Bubblegum Crisis, pick up the Blu-ray edition.

Splendid and classic Japan Anime in 198X AIC / ARTMIC age. With outstanding music.
Splendid and classic Japan Anime in 198X AIC / ARTMIC age. With outstanding music. Enemy is some kind of cyberpunk thing, with lots of action. Also, AIC / ARTMIC tend to destroy their own office building in their anime. It is nice to have BD now. The old VHS / LD picture quality is bad (480p or less), and VHS / LD player is not available now.

Good Blu-Ray Decent Quality Missing Content
I am watched this anime back in the mid 1990's when they had it at Blockbuster on VHS, it was one of the best Cyberpunk Anime OVA series of all time. About a group of women who fight in enhanced battle suits calling themselves the Knight Sabers who sometimes end up fighting a battle against a evil megacorporation known as Genom, with their army of powerful cybernetic humanoid beings known as Boomers that are ruthless killing machines which the AD police have a hard time fighting against. I will say Menu could of been better design, but I will admit the Blu-ray video quality is top notch watching the first episode that was released in 1987 in crisp and clear quality even the audio is perfect. Its only in standard edition 4:3 1080 HD Native . I will like to point out Animeigo ( who been around the Anime industry for a long time which I am surprise they are still around) made a kickstarter to make this Blu-ray collection. Keep this in mind this is not the Kickstarter version this is the basic release version which your only getting 8 episodes OVA series in one disk the only bonus content your getting is Color and Line Art content. No music video of Konya wa Hurricane (There's a Hurricane Tonight) Sung by: Oomori Kinuko or The Hurricane Live 2032, Hurricane Live 2033 and Holiday in Bali live concert. I am giving it 4 stars because they did a good job of with the quality of this OVA series I kind of wish they added more content. This is a good blu-ray if you never seen the series its a good to pick up and collect.

The Dawn Of Cyberpunk Anime!
Before Akira, before Ghost In The Shell, before them all was the premiere cyberpunk anime, Bubblegum Crisis. As an amalgam of two American movies, Blade Runner and Streets Of Fire, this OVA series was intended to be 13 episodes, but instead cut short to only 8. Following this was a sequel/wrap up in Bubblegum Crash, a prequel anime + manga in A.D. Police, as well as a TV remake along with its own prequel and spinoff OVA, plus an American comic book prequel mini-series by Adam Warren. Despite its derivative title, Bubblegum Crisis is not some magical girl anime about high school idol singers! It's a sci-fi superhero action drama, with stakes fitting its American influences even though there are the occasional scenes of standard anime hijinks. The anime was one of the pioneers in the dawn of OVAs that began in the mid-80s, and was largely popular due to its soundtrack albums that were released for each individual episode, for which back then on VHS was at least $60. This made its major studio Artmic into one of the premiere production companies of the time. Unfortunately, because of internal politics and fiances, Bubblegum Crisis was cut short during what was ultimately a filler episode. Beginning in 2032, Japan was earlier hit with a major earthquake that decimates Tokyo. The city is reborn as "Megatokyo", largely due to the work force of androids called Boomers manufactured by the now very powerful Genom corporation. One of the original designers of Boomers, Dr. Stingray, was killed years prior, and now his daughter Sylia leads an all-female team of mercs known as the Knight Sabers, each one wearing their own specialized combat armor that were all years ahead of anything that Tony Stark could have invented at the time. The other members of Sylia's team are obligatory tsundere/underground singer Priss, fitness expert Linna, and the bubbly Nene who works for the AD Police, Megatokyo's anti-Boomer task force. The first few episodes have the Knight Sabers dealing with Mason, a rogue member of Genom who might be the one behind the death of Sylia's father. Next is a stand alone about a vigilante with a suped-up race car knocking off a biker gang. Following this is a 2-parter featuring escaped sex-droids from a space station who ally with the cyborg terrorist Largo who has a personal vendetta with thew Knight Sabers. Following this is another stand alone episode about the idol singer Vision seeking her own revenge against Genom. The last episode has Nene trying to stop her boss' nosy niece from discovering the Knight Sabers' secret identities, while a random Genom scientist tries to kill off the superheroine quartet just to boost his own ego. Each OVA episode is done as its own mini-movie, some ranging from 30-50 minutes long each, with major anime industry names behind it like Masami Obari, Kenichi Sonoda, Hiroki Hayashi, and Hiroaki Goda. The legacy that this single anime spawned was the springboard for numerous cyberpunk titles across near countless media franchises, including Batman Beyond. The singular major drawback to the groundbreaking series is that it never reached its proper conclusion.

A fun cyberpunk anime
This anime was fun to watch. The music is great and the animation is really good. A good old anime with that 80's charm. Definitely recommend it.

So clear and sharp..
I have never seen the bubblegum crisis look this clear before. I had a friend from the College of Charleston show me this on Vhs that he recorded years ago.I enjoyed it then and even more now I've seen the blu ray. Very clear, pretty colors that pop out at you as youre watching. Sound was great

Still great
Priss and the replicants, song "Kadawa Hurricane " (there is a Hurricane coming), still holds up. "Blade Runner " ripped this anime off so much. Priss, Leon, the special police, are all in this. This is still great after all these years!

Few extras, lots of high-def fidelity
This 1-disc BR release has less extras than the remastered DVD box set. If you don't care about live action VA specials, interviews and music videos, this BR upgrade is absolutely worth it on sale.
