Do you trim off the extra strap length or just wrap it around and around?

As annoying as it is, I wrap it all around. I may trim some off though.

How do you prevent the ring straps from moving back and forth?

Face the metal clip where the word press is looking right at you. Feed the loose and strap behind the clip and pull it up underneath the clip by pressing where it says “press” Once is fed and properly the rings will stay put and you could adjust the rings as needed and then punch them up and use the Velcro to strap down the excess straps.

Can these be used outdoors?

Yes, I use this in park, and I am 190lbs. It's easy to use, I also use it to hang a 150lbs heavy bag for kickboxing.

Metal or plastic rings?

These are plastic rings. But if you’re asking for preference, Id say plastic. Metal is very slippery, when it comes to ring quality. But plastic rings do have more grip and can be great to use in tough weather conditions. So don’t worry about weathering. Plastic does have a very hard service at first but once you get used to it you should be fine 👍🏼
