Making Dolls' Houses in 1/12 Scale

I like the authors ability to give clear directions and there are lots of pictures as examples.

Chapter 1 is basic information about making these designs and building your own stairs/windows…things like that. Even something about tools and materials. That might be the most valuable part of the book, more detail than most books, you won't have to cram some "one size fits all" stairs or whatever into your project. Something that fits and belongs with your design would be really nice.Each project has more of that type information and ends with a list of project specific suppliers (just be aware there's no addresses listed except in the back of the book)…no websites, you'll have to "google it". Lots of luck on that. Measurements are given in inches/metric..I didn't Ike the author's thatched roof substitute but he did list materials for the "real" look and gave his reason for not using them (they catch all the dust). Several kinds of wood are listed and reasons for using them for building elements are given…if you can find them.Lots of detail some of it might be useful for future projects.Is it worth full price?, maybe not, but if you want to try to build a dolls house some good information here.

There are only 5 designs for this book. I am happy to learn that there is a second book available. I want to see more. The victorian store and thatched cottage are very nice. The fisherman's cottage is excellent and really tempted me to buy this book (got this out at the library) I liked the goergian house as well but it lacked a second staircase so there was no entrance into the attic rooms.There are detailed instructions spanning many pages but I can see how some readers might find them a bit daunting. Also the photos are too dark.The tudor example given was an unusual design however there is no furnishings in the interior so it was not as inspiring.Pretty good book overall. I would recommend looking it over at the bookstore or in the library before you buy.

Following the authors instructions may have you pulling your hair out. There are quite a few mistakes and vague instruction in this book.I would not recomend this book to the inexperienced for it's plans, as it may prove to be quite frustrating and perhaps discouraging. It is however, a great book for inspiration.If you are fairly experienced or really like a good challenge, then you will enjoy creating these designs. (Hopefully you will spot the errors 'before' making them!)I would give this book 5 stars if it were not for the errors. A web site from the author and/or publisher for errata would be very useful.All that aside, I did manage to buid 2 of the projects so far. (More like 10 if you count the times I did parts of them over and over and ...)

I checked out this book from the library and used it for my FIRST EVER miniature project - the Georgian dollhouse. The narrative instructions are a little hard to follow, (perhaps because the authors are British and I am not), and there are only a few basic diagrams. But after a few months of mild to moderate frustration, I had a beautiful product! I wouldn't recommend this book to someone who hasn't done any woodcraft or miniature projects, but for someone with a little experience, the end results can be worth the effort.

Very good book excellent ideas, could be a bit more detailed, but overall very good. Not always very accurate eg the ladder for the fishermans cottage should have 10 not 9 steps according to the measurments, but things like that are easily adapted

hard back book in very good condition .delivered on time and well packaged this book is full of drawings of different dolls houses and with measurements a lot in colour. i'm looking forward in trying out the ideas and this book will also help me to change and customise to make the housesto my grand daughters tastesthank you

Excellent for the price, it’s hardbacked and although it smells a bit musky, the condition is great.

5 very good designs but very challenging. Looking forward to attempting them.

The dimensions on the plans for the Georgian house are completely wrong.Waste of time and overly complicated. You would need to be a professional to do this.Would give 0 stars if I could
