Cotopaxi Allpa 35L Travel Pack, Fatigue

This is my husband’s favorite luggage! It’s small enough to be a personal item on the plane, which allowed us to spend two weeks in Japan with just the Allpa and a carry-on. The different compartments keep everything organized. The handy loop lets it slide right on a suitcase handle. I appreciate the compartments that are accessible from the outside and the laptop sleeve. He loves to take it on weekend trips for hands-free travel that allows him to help elderly family members with their luggage. This would also be great for travel with kids! We are not tall, but the padded straps are very comfortable, and the waist support tucks away nicely (we didn’t need it). We’ve had it a year and it still looks brand new. 10/10 recommend!!

A great travel alternative to a rolling bag for a short trip. This packs as much as my regular 22” carry on. Lots of pockets and zippered areas. Comfy to wear if you use the chest and waist straps. I used it on a 4 day car trip and 3 day plane trip and it worked out well. Opens flat on a luggage rack.

Worked well on trip to Rome

Flown with this bag twice now and it’s so nice to land and not have to think about dragging anything behind you. Both trips have been week long and no issues fitting everything I’d need. Fits in the overhead compartment of JetBlue and Delta with no issues even when fully packed.

Unfortunately, the first time I used this pack and tightened the chest strap, it popped off the frame. I cannot reattach it, so now I have an inoperable travel pack. I attempted to contact the company for resolution but they have failed to respond. Update: Company finally contacted me and provided information on how to repair the chest strap myself. Their repair info worked and the chest strap is now fully operable. Main lesson is that when tightening the chest strap, do not get too aggressive on snugness. I was looking for a carry-on backpack and settled on this one thanks to its glowing reviews by a review web site that burns me every time I trust it. (Has to do with cutting of wires.) Yet I go back because…I don’t know? In any case, I’m burned yet again. This bag, while clearly made from quality materials (very durable-feeling outer, hardcore zippers), leaves a lot to be desired in my humble opinion. First off, I find the inner geometry to be extremely strange. The bag has one large-ish main pocket, a second pocket with a bunch of space that you need to kind of push in and up out of sight to get to, and then an odd outer space near the top that can’t quite be filled. And once filled, zipping the bag is an issue due to a couple of points where things bend strangely due to inner structures. Weight wise this bag is also problematic. I guess it’s due to build quality, but it feels almost as heavy as my clamshell roller bag. So we have a heavy bag with odd and difficult capacity. Which makes me wonder, why on Earth would I use this instead of my roller? Answer, after one trip: I certainly won’t! I’m gifting this bag to one of my children and going back to hard sided rollers with their nice easy capacity and wheels and if I need to gate check, no worries… Not at all worth it for me and not recommended. Giving three stars because this is my first and only foray into travel backpacks and maybe I’m just not the target audience or something.
