Yes, you need to pair it with a compatible WiFi hub (models: HWG023, HWG023WBRF, or HWG040) to enjoy smart features like low moisture alert, remote monitoring, data logging, etc. When not paired with the hub, you won't be able to use the app.

Due to factors like soil composition, the way you water, pot shape, plant root distribution, causing some areas to retain more moisture than others, especially if the pot is not evenly watered or if the soil has uneven drainage properties.
