Here’s my review of the ZTE U30AIR 5G Mobile WiFi Hotspot. I’ve been using this device for a while now, and it has surprised me in a good way. Even though the product page doesn’t mention it, the hotspot provides a wired-style connection through USB using a Remote NDIS network interface. This means I can connect my PC directly via USB and get a stable, gigabit-speed link without relying on WiFi. My WiFi card is switched off, and I’m still fully online through the router. Performance has been solid. The connection feels more stable than WiFi, with lower latency and no interference. The device is easy to set up, works well in a caravan environment, and handles multiple devices without issues. There are a few things worth noting: indoors, 5G signal can vary depending on location, and the device doesn’t support traditional USB tethering modes that some tools look for. But the USB network mode it does provide works extremely well. Overall, it’s a reliable, portable hotspot with better connectivity options than advertised. I’m happy with it and would recommend it.

An excellent bit of kit With the included 5g 3gb Data sim, from Three, it was hitting over 100mb DOWN, and around 20mb UP on the dual band wifi, it gets even faster when connected via usb c It took around 2 minutes from inserting the sim to getting internet, simply plug and play. If your lucky, you might see over 200mb down on this device, its certainly capable of it. DUAL band and dual MIMO means, whilst not a wifi 6 or 7 device, its a top end mimo device, with full app and browser control. It lacks sma connections, and could benefit from it, however, portability, and power draw considered, its 5g connection remains solid, those who might require more power will need to consider devices that cost 2x the price of this. Pro Small, portable, light, swappable batteries, instant sim to esim switching, MIMO WIFI, and full app and browser interfaces, solid construction, and plug and play, with NFC pairing for upto 10 devices. Con Lacks serious power for campers, no SMA inputs. BUY, you wont get a pro level 5g sim router for less.

ZTE U30AIR 5G Wi-Fi pocket Router – High-Speed 5G Connectivity, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, Seamless Streaming & Gaming, Easy Setup, Portable, Supports Multiple Devices I recently updated to this from a cheap 4G ZTE mifi which served me well for 2 years. I use it with an unlimited payg data sim to avoid the financial enslavement and ever worsening service that comes as standard with UK broadband contracts. Previous routers and mifis all handily had the password on the back. With this one it is so well hidden that Amazon customer services had to help me locate it. Finding the password involves taking the back off the mifi (every single time). The plastic clips holding the back on don't seem overly robust. This necessitated a diy approach where I made my own sticker. This avoided repeated dismantling during that period where I was finding yet another item that needed the new password to connect. My previous mifi could easily be propped up. Not so with this one. The addition of a phone holder overcame this nicely. This mifi has an energy saving feature where the lights indicating charge level and signal strength turn off to save battery. There is no override, apart from to manually press the on button to see the lights for a few seconds. Consequently it does often run out of charge as I have forgotten to check it. When charging the indicator lights do stay on. The charging light flashes and changes from red (deceased) to blue (so so) to white (yay! ready to go all day - maybe). The white status doesn't differentiate between only just turned white and fully charged. If it is only just on the white it will not last the stated time. Unfortunately when taken off charge the battery indicator will just show solid white so there is no way to ascertain if it is really fully charged. I am on the edge of a 5G area. It should only work outdoors. However, I am consistently getting 5G via this mifi indoors, in a concrete / metal building with other floors above, and several buildings and half a mile between me and the 5G mast. That seems quite impressive. This was the cheapest 5G mifi I could find from a reputable manufacturer. Despite the secrecy over the password and charge level display it's good value for money and performs very well. Recommended.

Item is well-made, and seems robust. Was easy to set up (insert SIM / battery) and configure. Initial testing gave me a ~200 MBPS download speed (talkmobile SIM, Ookla speed test), whereas a cheaper 4G hotspot gave me only ~20 MBPS for same SIM / same placement. Web admin page was easy to access, and used to configure settings: changed the SSID and password to something to suit me, without any problems; and was also able to change the auto-time-out to 'never' so it won't switch off unexpectedly. Both 2.4 and 5 GHz WiFi available. Major bonus: was able to receive (read) and send SMS from the web admin page - this is a major bonus for administering the data SIM provider account - as SMS security codes are used for account access. Haven't used long term, so can't comment on robustness / longevity, but would recommend from first impressions.

Worked for three days and then suddenly didn't allow any device to connect (including the NFC connect facility). The SIM worked fine in other devices so not the issue. We tried a reset, draining of the battery and start over, all setting changes and back to 'normal'. Nothing worked. When it work it was a nice bit of kit but it did not last. Perhaps a bad batch but the mixed suggests it happens more than not. Wished I skipped in the first place now and opted for a better router.

Absolutely blown away by the speeds that this little MiFi achieved. I'm an IT professional with 49 years in the industry (started on mainframes with IBM in the 70's) and have been having repeated issues with a FTTP broadband service over the past year. A 5G mast was installed recently so I thought I would try mobile data. The results are impressive! Getting 250Mbps (where my Gigabit fibre never gets above 150Mbps). All for £90 plus £20 a month for a Smarty data subscription. Simple set up and it works!

I dont usually do this but i felt like i was sold a dream the first day the speeds were absolutely amazing i was at 150+ mbps download and 60 mbps upload i was flying it was even better than my wifi however 48 hours later it overheated and i only had my phone on i could not get a stable connection for the life of me i could barely get past 11 mbps on neither upload or download gutted definitely not worth the price and initially i thought 100 for fast speeds was a bargain but no inconsistent maybe its ok for half the price but a let down honestly.

I read mixed reviews on this, but decided to try it. I set it up in 10 minutes. It came with a complimentary SIM, but I used the existing 2nd SIM I had for my WhatsApp Business Account. As you can see, the speed is amazing for the price of the box. I upgraded the 2nd SIM to 'unlimited' data, which is well worth it at less than £20 month-to-month. I'm also using it in a part of the house (office) where my mobile phone signal isn't very strong. I rarely take the time to review products I buy, but given there were mixed reviews, I wanted to share my experience with it. I'd like to use it overseas too, so I'll try that in a few weeks, but for now, in the UK, this is great.

Great wifi 5G Router. Strong connection and small enough to fit in your pocket!

Kurze Vorgeschichte: Da mein mobiler 4G Router bereits in die Jahre kam und auch nicht mehr die maximal mögliche Bandbreite meines Vertrages ausnutzen konnte, suchte ich schon seit längerem einen Nachfolger und wollte dabei gleich auf einen mobilen 5G Router umsteigen. Mein Problem war bis dato aber immer, dass namenhafte Produkte wie beispielsweise von TP-Link oder Netgear einfach zu teuer sind und es günstigere Angebote nur von irgendwelchen unbekannten Herstellern gab, denen ich nicht vertraue. Vorletzte Woche bin ich dann zufällig via Google auf den ZTE U30 Air gestoßen, der mir für ca. 111 Euro angeboten wurde. Da ZTE keine unbekannte Marke auf dem Mobilfunksektor ist und sogar bei der Entwicklung und im Ausbau von Mobilfunknetzen beteiligt war, erweckte das sofort mein Interesse. Ich war zunächst skeptisch und suchte nach einem Haken. Da ich aber absolut nichts schlechtes über diesen Router finden konnte, bestellte ich einen, der binnen zwei Werktagen bei mir ankam. Nun zum Gerät selbst: Der ZTE U30 Air ist für einen mobilen 5G Router sehr kompakt und lässt sich problemlos überall hin mitnehmen. Seine flache Bauform ist angenehm, weshalb er gut in viele Taschen passt. Er verfügt über einen SIM-Kartenslot für Nano SIM-Karten, hat einen USB C-Anschluss, über den man auch Computer ohne W-LAN mit dem Internet verbinden kann und hat einen integrierten Speicherplatz von 64GB. Auf den Speicher kann allerdings nur via USB Kabel zugegriffen werden, einen integrierten FTP oder Mediaserver hat der Router nicht. Die Einrichtung funktioniert, da er kein Display hat, sehr einfach über die "ZTE Smart Life" App oder über das Web-Interface, das sich über die IP Adresse im Webbrowser aufrufen lässt. Dabei muss ich erwähnen, dass die Konfigurationsmöglichkeiten über das Web-Interface etwas umfangreicher sind. Es sind alle wichtigen Funktionen integriert, sehr positiv fiel mir auf, dass der Router sogar den neuen WPA3 Sicherheitsstandard unterstützt und das WLAN somit noch sicherer vor Hackangriffen macht. WPA3 ist bei vielen mobilen Routern noch nicht Standard. Um die Authentifizierung im WLAN zu vereinfachen, kann man Android Geräte schnell via NFC mit dem Netzwerk verbinden. Dabei muss man das Smartphone oder Tablet einfach nur kurz auf den Router legen und die Einbindung ins WLAN erfolgt automatisch. Dies funktioniert aktuell jedoch nur mit Android und nicht auch für iOS Geräten. WiFi Protected Setup (WPS) unterstützt der ZTE U30 Air leider nicht. Der Mobilfunkempfang sowie auch die Geschwindigkeit und Reichweite des drahtlos Netzwerk sind für dieses kleine Gerät sehr gut - ich kann damit in unserem Ferienhaus problemlos sowohl die Geräte im Erdgeschoß als auch im 1. Stock mit WLAN versorgen. Dabei unterstützt der kleine Router kein Dual-Band, man muss also manuell zwischen 2,4GHz oder 5GHz auswählen. Das 2,4GHz Netzwerk ist etwas langsamer, hat dafür aber eine größere Reichweite und ist stromsparender - optimal für Homeoffice, E-Mail, Internet, Teams etc. . Das 5GHz Netzwerk hingegen ist schneller, hat aber eine geringere Reichweite und verbraucht mehr Strom - optimal wenn man Filme z.B. von Netflix in 4K streamen möchte oder online Gaming betreibt. Das Umschalten der Frequenzen erfolgt übrigens bequem mittels Tastendruck, kann aber auch via App oder Web-Interface erfolgen. Die einzige Einschränkung hier ist, dass der Router maximal 10 Teilnehmer gleichzeitig mit WLAN versorgen kann. Wer mehr benötigt, muss ein anderes Gerät wie z.B. den ZTE U60 (pro) in Betracht ziehen. Es ist sehr beeindruckend, wie viel Leistung dieser kleine Router aus dem 5G Netz holt. Mein Tarif soll laut Vertrag maximal 250Mbit/s Down- und 50Mbit/s Upload liefern, in der Realität (mit 5G SA) komme ich laut RTR-Netztest beim Download sogar auf durchschnittliche und beachtliche 269MBit/s und beim Upload auf ca. 28MBit/s. Die Latenzzeit (via WLAN) liegt bei niedrigen 15ms, das für einen Mobilfunk-Router ein hervorragender Wert ist. Der Akku hält bei mir problemlos mehrere Stunden am Stück durch, dabei wird der Router lediglich warm und nicht, wie bei manchen 5G Router anderer Herstellern oft bekrittelt wird, heiß. Genauso konnte ich beim ZTE U30 Air auch keine Drosselung der Internetverbindung bei einer Geräteerwärmung feststellen. Mein Fazit: Alles in allem bekommt man mit dem ZTE U30 Air einen ausgezeichneten mobilen Router zu einem guten Preis. Er liefert für einen kleinen akkubetriebenen mobilen 5G Router ein sehr stabiles, flottes Internet mit einer konstanten Leistung und spannt auch ein gutes und performantes drahtlos Netzwerk nach dem Wi-Fi 5 Standard auf. Aufgrund der flachen Bauweise hat er natürlich keine RJ45 LAN Schnittstelle verbaut, liefert aber auch über den USB C Anschluss eine gute Performance. Der Akku ist erfreulicherweise austauschbar, das ein Pluspunkt für das heikle Thema "Nachhaltigkeit" ist. Wer also auf ein Display, auf VPN sowie DDNS verzichten kann, kein Dual-Band WLAN benötigt und mit der Limitierung auf maximal 10 Benutzer zurechtkommt, ist mit diesem mobilen Router bestens beraten.

Fiable, robuste, facile à utiliser. Vraiment rien à redire, super produit ! On le sort de la boîte et il fonctionne directement, les débits sont très bons (plus de 500Mo/sec en 5G lorsqu'on capte bien).
