The birth of the ancient Panpepato of Siena lies around story and legend. Probably it was born within the walls of cloistered convents. We have written proofs of its existence already in 1200, but the preparation of this treat remains always true to the original recipe. Panforte has a firm and strong taste thanks to a mix of spices, pepper, nuts, cacao and candied fruit.

A Delicious Slice of History
Arrived fresh and amazing! Such complex flavors, mysterious and yet completely delightful. If you like textures in your food you'll go absolutely crazy over this with a cup of tea or coffee. Chewy citrus peel, something deeply floral, and tons of warming spices make this a fabulous experience. Takes me right back to Siena. Reminiscent of American fruitcake without all the terrible chemical offensiveness and fakery.

Fresh and an excellent flavor with a -hint- of peppery spiciest . A small slice with coffee is an excellent light desert.For what it’s worth, I just paid roughly the same price for this in Milan.

The BEST brand of panforte!
Nannini brand is by far the most delicious panforte nero, but only rarely available in the U.S. When I see it, I have to snatch it up immediately. Please keep it available!!

Bread like dessert.
Delicious!!!!!Black bread with fruits and nuts inside.Something in between pannetonne and bread pudding.
