Fill this with diesel fuel before starting
Mann makes good filters. This one is for the VW BEW series engine; there may be other engines that it fits.

Fill the filter with fuel before starting
There are a lot of good reviews for this Mann Fuel Filter, with many good insights. In my case I have been using Mann Fuel Filters in my 2003 VW Jetta Tdi for over 20 years and they always do the job. I've used biodiesel and more recently the newer renewable diesel. Both are excellent solvents, so residue from petroleum diesel is mobilized and can clog the fuel filter. I always carry a spare filter and on several occasions have had to change the filter on the road.Amazon's product description has at least one error. The country of origin is listed as China, but this filter is made in Bosnia. I think they used to be made in Spain.

Great looking...only time will tell about inside
How does one rate a filter that you cannot see? At least the outside finish is better than the VW dealer provided on my last change. What is more important to know is how to change this filter so here are some pointers:- The bracket clamp on the filter body has as special type of double square slot on the screw to loosen it. I was able to use a large torx bit that fit and it worked but it was not real tight and I did not make it tight. You can change this out with a normal hex head if you want.- Look at the videos on youtube FIRST for some good instructions and visuals.- This filter comes with the o rings and they must be changed as they age and if one leaks you will not be able to run your car.- Find a dowel plug to put in hoses before doing this job.- put a towel under the area to catch diesel as it is corrosive...you will spill!- after you put in the new filter fill it up again with filtered fuel from you old filter through a paper strainer or towel. Use a funnel and put it in the hole where the ring clamp holds the tee fitting...don't rest the funnel in the bottom as it has a plate that it will rest on and stop flow.- after you put everything back together hold off with the hose clamps and attach a small hose to the outlet of the filter. Have someone put the car in run mode (do not start!) and the pump will run a few seconds and purge the air from the filter. Do this until you get most air out. I found I would always get a few bubbles but mostly a solid stream. Car worked fine and started right away.- I do not know how low the filter has to go since it seem it can be located higher for easy access to the drain but I put it at the same height as was removed suspecting some kind of unwanted siphon action.

It's okay.
Product is as advertized; a replacement for the OEM filter. However, it was damaged on arrival (no observable damage to the container box, so I assume it was damaged before packaging, meaning it passed inspection before shipment). The metal tabs that hold the locking pin for the temperature sensing valve were bent. No big deal, though, and they were pushed and bent back into appropriate position. The lack of instructions as to how to purge air from the filter is what kept me from leaving 5 stars for this product. I went to Youtube to find the appropriate tutorial on how to replace these filters on my car.

Stuttered after filter changed, but found to be EGR valve
Great price and fast shipping. I installed this filter over the WIX filters I usually use because it is the recommended replacement for my 2004 Jetta TDI and I saw that it was cheaper on amazon than at my local auto parts store. I removed the old filter and two seals, installed the new ones and filled the filter with diesel before starting the car. It stuttered a little on start up, but was fine after a minute. Since installation a month ago, I have periodically had the vehicle stuttering during accelerations and sometimes even at idle. It seems random when this happens and goes away after an engine restart. I don’t have any check engine faults for this and since this started happening right after the filter change I have to assume the filter or seals are faulty. Ordering another to see if that fixes the issue. I have never had this issue before changing the fuel filter at 20k mile intervals, so that also makes me suspicious of this part. Is there a warranty for this part?EDIT: after installing a second one of these filters and the stutter still persisted, I found stutter was being caused by a clogged EGR valve which happened to coincide with when the fuel filter was changed. It seems an odd coincidence that it happened right after the fuel filter was changed, but after cleaning the EGR valve, stuttering stopped. Will probably buy this filter again in the future.

It's a MANN... pretty popular and solid option... no issues installing.
Had a slight leak at the thermal connector. Took off the o-rings and installed the o-rings that were on my previous filter and then it wasn't leaking. Not sure if it was the o-rings or just a short between the my brain and hands. All the o-rings looked the same side by side. Lesson maybe don't pitch your old o-rings until you're sure you're leak free.
