That is how the resistance is calculated. It's not a straight up do you have wait for either five pounds 10 pounds 200 pounds whatever it's not not calculated like that. Here's an example of how this product works. if you weigh 175 lbs and have all 4 bands engaged that is 53.6 pounds of resistance, in the lowest height adjustment. When you put that in the highest highte adjustment now you have a 163.1 pounds of resistance. if you weigh less you have less resistance, if you weigh more your resistance is more, because your moving your own weight also. It comes with a whole chart that you can go by to set up what you want for resistance. It's a whole different exercise than weight lifting. This machine is really Pilates with resistance you get better workout then just plain Pilates on a mat.
