Fuel tank sender
easy to install but does need the optional adapter to send the signal to a dash board mounted fuel gauge.

Fool proof
I used this sender as a replacement in my boat’s below deck tank after both the electronic sender and remote fuel gauge had failed and left me without fuel twice. This sender is robust and seems to be of good quality. Some important install notes:-The standard ANSI/SAE 5-bolt hole pattern is slightly asymmetric and only allows for one-way install. So if you plan to reuse existing holes, it can only mount in one orientation.-Neither the gauge or the float swing direction can be adjusted (like on some electronic ones) The gauge itself only fits in the sender housing one way.-Comparing the gauge dial to a clock (1/2 tank at 12 o’clock position) the nub in the housing is at 6 o’clock. The float arm swings in the 3 o’clock direction.Luckily this ended up working well for my tank shape/orientation but it may not for others without some modification.

Great mechanical BUT NO ELECTRICAL CONNECTION
The unit itself is great, strong and easy to install, BUT THE DESCRIPTIONS ONLINE AND ON THE PACKAGE ARE VERY MISLEADING. The ad calls it a Mechanical Fuel Tank SENDER. and states that it is "Calibrated to the industry standard of 33-240 Ohms" and "Compatible with option dash mounted gauge" There is nowhere in the ad or on the package that references what additional hardware is needed to connect it with the dash gauge. It took some research to figure this out. MINIMALLY, believe that the ad and the package should state that an adapter is needed to connect it to the dash gauge, and it must be purchased separately, and give the part number to order.Having said this, I would give the unit itself a 5, but because of the misleading or incomplete information, have lowered it to a 4. If additional hardware is required to take advantage of the fact it is a SENDER, that should be clearly and plainly shown.

...because it's a sender
Another reviewer was bummed because he had to buy a conversion kit to send the fuel level signal to his fuel gauge. Actually, he just bought the wrong type of sender. This unit has a gauge right on it. When installed, there's a direct-read fuel gauge on the tank itself. And it's called a 'sender' or 'sending unit' because that's what it is. That's the name of the device that reads the fuel level. At any rate, the quality was better than expected. Much more robust than the unit it replaced. The float is some kind of rubber or plastic, so it won't absorb fuel like the cork floats and sink. And yes, it does come with the gasket and mounting screws. Nothing else is needed. If your fuel tank is clean and flat around the hole, and your tank screw holes are not stripped and still give a good 'bite' to the screws, no gasket sealer is needed. These come in different length, so measure your tank depth. If your tank is between available sender sizes, you have a bit of a decision. If you get a sender that's too short, it will be accurate when it reads 'full', but when it reads 'empty, there will still be fuel in the tank.If you get a sender that's too long, you can bend and straighten out the float arm a bit. Then when it reads 'empty' the tank will be empty. But, when the tank is full, the gauge will show that it is not-quite full.I chose 'too short' so I have a bit of reserve fuel when it shows 'empty'. In retrospect, that was dumb. I'd rather know exactly how much fuel is left.

Arrived scratched
The unit appears to be good quality, but it arrived with deep scratches covering about half of the clear plastic face of gauge. The manufacturer's plastic packaging does not seem to protect the gauge face during shipping.

Fool proof
I love it. I got fed up with the gauge and sender. It works, it dont work, is it working ? What's it doing ? Forget it. If you have visible access to your tank (mine is very easily accessible) this is a fool proof and accurate way to eliminate the guesswork. with kids on board, I feel better knowing not guessing. I would recommend and purchase again if needed.

Just what I want
Satisfied with the gauge so far. Only had it for one trip in the boat. Seems simple and dependable. I use it in a 75 gallon ranger bay boat tank. I’ll probably add the electric sending module.
