Youngtown High Torque Long Shaft Clock Movement Kit with 12 in Black Hands

This kit replaced the failed movement for our 25-inch diameter wall clock. The only adjustment I had to make was to snip an inch off the pointer end of the minute hand. Replacement took about 15-20 minutes total; required only an 11 mm box wrench, and works well. Instructions are clear, and assembly is simple. Be aware, though, for large clocks, don't buy the cheaper $10 mechanisms - they won't support the long minute hand.

I needed white hands for a clock I made and these are made quite well. They are exactly as described and they are shipped securely in a cardboard box which help avoid receiving damaged parts. They arrived in perfect shape and had protective plastic skin on the hands. The time is very accurate on the clockworks and it assembled easily.

I've replaced a number of these type of clock movement's the past few years, and this one worked well. However, one caveat, this one appeared to be a return as the hands were scuffed/scratched on the front painted surfaces, and the items in the box, which appeared to have been resealed, were scattered around and not packed securely as they should be. That being said, since I didn't need the hands, just the movement, all worked well. I'm always a little disappointed when you buy something new, and it isn't really "new", but repackaged, and badly at that....probably a return that wasn't checked out very well by Amazon.

The short version: The spindle or shaft that carries the hands was entirely made of plastic, was the wrong shape for the hole in the minute hand, and had no threads to accommodate the nut that is supposed to hold the hands in place. It was entirely unusable. The long version: After discovering the very small and well obscured “Made in China” disclaimer, I knew in a heartbeat what the clock mechanism was good for. Now, before I get on with my story I’d like to note that there is a significant difference between Chinese made products and products “Made in China”. For example, I have several very high quality, functional and versatile flashlights made by a Chinese owned company, employing Chinese workers in a Chinese manufacturing facility in China. In other words, there is a Chinese entrepreneur that has skin in the game making sure his or her products are top shelf. That’s an example of Chinese made. The clock mechanism was “Made in China”. To get on with my story, I decided to give the clock mechanism one last chance to prove itself worth at least something, so I subjected it to the .45 ACP test as delivered by a 1911 Government, full frame semiautomatic. Not wanting to drive the 35 miles to the shooting range, I spent the time and effort to construct a small backstop of tamped earth and plywood that was about 18 inches thick, which I placed against the concrete foundation wall of my garage. To this I mounted the clock mechanism with museum wax. I did not try and affix the hands as I thought they could potentially become a high velocity hazard zipping through the air. Anyway, I paced off 21 feet, loaded a 185 grain jacketed hollow point into battery, took aim, and fired. The results were glorious. I found nothing of the clock mechanism except a few tiny shards of plastic. Not quite vaporized, but close. - And then reality set in as I realized I had just broken several town ordinances concerning discharging a firearm within city limits and projectiles and noise and Lord knows what else. I went back inside the house to await the inevitable patrol car pulling into my driveway. Five minutes elapsed. Then 10, 20, 45… After an hour and 15 minutes I realized no patrol car was coming. No one had reported a deranged lunatic shooting a gun in his back yard. Though happy to not have to explain my actions to a law enforcement officer and perhaps appear in the Police Reports section of the Thursday edition of the local newspaper, I am nonetheless considering moving to a safer neighborhood.

I love large wall mounted display clocks. I purchased one used, but the hands were bent and constantly jamming against the clock's cross beam supports. I purchased this set of arms with a long shaft to get the arms away from the cross support beams. I installed it and set the time and have not had to adjust it at all in over six months. It keeps absolutely perfect time. It installed easily and quickly, and the price could not be beat. You don't hear it running: it's just always there and always accurate.

The drive shaft is extremely loose and so both hands are wobbly. The minute hand is additionally loose beneath the lock nut and difficult to retain in a flush plane. I have just started to run the clock and it is functioning properly for now. Hoping the hands do not collide during extended use.

I think this replacement is better than the original movement in my clock. I had a Youngtown 12888 Quartz movement in my clock originally and I noticed all of the 12888 movements listed for sale seemed to be packaged with smaller hands. This high torque long shaft movement had the same size clock hands that my clock face required (12"). It was an easy swap and its keeping time perfectly. The design of these hands are easier to read than the original hands on my clock. The installation instructions were also very easy to follow. I also haven't noticed any noise from this new mechanism.

Clock hands and mechanism work fantastic. I purchased to replace on a large wall clock that was losing time. this replacement did the job great, keeps time, does not tick. easy to install.

Seems like a good quality clock replacement-Packaging could have been better- more wrapping was needed.

They fit lovely and look great, so much easier for me to see than black. The longer shaft helps keep the hands spaced properly. Packaged well and arrived to the UK from the US with no issues.
