Greatest Hits: Remixed

Great music.. remixing not that big of a deal.. but still..
I just reviewed a Hinder record (a gift) which certainly gives light to what I'm about to say. They just don't make music like they used to. Triumph is one of those greatly underated bands from the 70's and 80's. Rik Emmett is a masterful guitar player and one big reason why a good handful of these songs make you want to go buy a 79 Trans Am and peel out of your driveway on a road trip to Florida (run-on-sentence time: with 4 cases of beer in your trunk, a swim suit and flops - no need for sunscreen or a job for at least a weeks' stay in some cheap sea-side motel with some hot college girls and your bro's).. Oh, back to reality.. Anyway, the re-mixing is certainly evident on this compilation and is a touch over-kill in places, but outstanding in others. It's a wash, I guess, but I'd still rather have the original versions of every song. Remixing/re-mastering is a good idea if the changes are subtle and improve sound quality and bring volume to newer standards - Not when forcing instruments in front, or along-side of others. Guitar and lead vocals, for example, are a dominant sound in rock music and thats the point which should resonate among those who wish to re-mix. So, why mess with that unless it's done properly? When listeing to this I have to adjust my volume for certain songs.. (annoying)As for the music, not all Triumph songs kick-azz and some are a bit cheesy 80's style stuff, but there are many good tunes which I consider to be classics: Allied Forces, Never Surrender, Lay it on the Line, Fight the Good Fight etc... (just like any band, you've got to sort through some of the songs you don't favor). I recommend this album, but would rather tell you to buy Triumph Classics, Allied Forces and Never Surrender piece meal - sort through them and make a playlist out of all the songs you put in there. If you don't want to do that, this is still very worthy for only a $9.99 download cost. Enjoy -

Really great release! I liked the DVD a lot!
I was really happy to get this CD and DVD combo. I had just bought two of the more recent years releases of Triumph LPs. I had no idea this had been put out also. The music is great and they really did seem to put the majority of the best songs on it. This is a highly underrated band in America and one that really had some great songs, messages, lyrics, and overall music and sound in their music. The DVD varies in quality but it is great to have the videos and music on them. I really enjoyed it.My first copy arrived damaged. I then contacted Amazon and they sent me another copy the next day. The second copy almost looked damaged but I think it was just the way things were shrink wrapped. It was really tight and put a bend in the hard casing made out of a cardboard type material.Amazon told me to keep the first copy so I passed it along to a friend who is also a Triumph fan. I'm thinking of getting one more copy, since the price is really good on it, and sending that copy to another friend/fan.Definitely a good product.

A compilation beyond perfect
This is an incredible greatest hits set, remasters plus a DVD. The recording quality is great especially since the tracks are remastered with a perfect balance that does not detract coming from the engineers taste. I have heard some remasters that sound clear but thinned out to turned into a lack luster piece of sound, this set is pure gold to the ears. I definitely recommend this to any Triumph fan or late discoverer of this powerhouse trio. The DVD is loaded with great videos and that coupled with the CD is a double barrel blast from the past. Get it and bring back the rockin times!

Almost Perfect
I am happy that Triumph released a remixed Greatest Hits package. In addition to the remastering and improved engineering, the remixing brought the vocals out front and each track now has a cleaner sound. Particularly on "Follow Your Heart" and "Somebody's Out There". Both songs sound like fresh new recordings.I had purchased the "Triumph Classics" collection earlier and was disappointed with the sound quality. When this package was released I was happy they included a DVD of their MTV-era videos however the only reason I did not give this 5 stars is that the collection did not include all of the original tracks off of "The Classics" compilation, most obviously "Tears In the Rain" off of the "Sport of Kings" LP. Instead we have Triumph's cover of "Love Hurts".I would love to see Rik, Mike & Gil do one more world tour, perhaps to back up a new album, however it doesn't look like it will happen. In the meantime, enjoy this compilation and the 80s era DVD. It brings back great memories!

It's a must have! great quality!
What a great 2 disk set! The recorded CD Audio quality is better than I expected. I really like the Live Music DVD that came with this set! That was a real bonus! As for the editing quality of the live DVD... I give 5 stars to the editor. Some of the Live stage DVD tracks (you can hear) are mixed from the bands studio audio tracks, but it's wonderful how well on live video that matched with the music and vocals. There are a few raw Live video DVD shows on the disk that are obviously pure, raw and live from the band. (I actually like this better.) Triumph in their prime as a band just sounded great Raw and live, with no edit work needed. Of course you can hear the difference from the live stage "studio recorded" video DVD cuts, but I give the band props for performing true to reality and still sounding great doing it. That my friends is Talent you will NEVER see in most popular musicians during our current time. Triumph does it raw and live in your face on the DVD included with this CD. Long live Rock & Roll and the best true artiest of the best generation in Rock!!!!!!

Excellent CD
I've been a fan of triumph since the early 80s. Triumph's music never gets old. Anyone who gets this CD will not be disappointed. The DVD that came with it was wonderful as well as you got to see interviews with the guys and know what they are all about.
