Kanga Hurricane worked great for our trip
We bought the Sherpak Kanga Hurricane rooftop bag for a 2.5 hour trip to Cape Cod, and it worked great. When we got it, we thought it was too big, but it turned out being perfect for a family of four traveling to a "housekeeping" cottage for a week. Normally we would put all our gear in the trunk, but since we brought 4 bikes this time and have a Honda Accord, we needed the trunk space for a bike! We put the rooftop bag on our car without roof rack or the pad you can buy for it, and it seemed very secure. Besides the straps above our heads holding the bag on the roof, we wouldn't have even noticed it was there while driving. I didn't notice any extra noise caused by the bag, but the Honda Accord isn't the quietest ride anyway, so maybe I'm just used to a noisy ride. Our drive included high speed on the highway and low speed in Cape Cod traffic. I bought a couple of extra straps at a hardware store for about $13 which I put around the bag and our roof just because I wanted a little extra security. (I'm a very careful person!) It did not rain so I was not able to test water resistance, but I had packed everything in plastic bags just in case of rain, which worked OK, except I didn't label the bags, so I really needed to unpack everything so we could find anything. With an amazon card discount, I think we paid less than $70 total, and for that price, I am very happy with our roof bag!

Held up pretty well considering
Bought this for a trip to the beach and it worked fine. On the way home I unfortunately found out how well it was made, was slowing down for construction and got rear ended by someone doing 65-70 will I was doing 30. Where the straps were attached held, but the straps themselves snapped. The whole thing stayed intact as it skidded across the highway, but unfortunately the pavement pretty much shredded the bottom. I can't really fault the construction as it actually held up rather well, but unfortunately after one trip it is in the garbage.

Kanga Hurricane 14 rooftop carrier
Kanga Hurricane 14 rooftop carrier.. Product appears to be well made and and designed . Only exception is the method of attaching to a standard roof rack on a Volvo 70AWD Wagon. In addition to side rails, standard Yakima cross rails fore and aft.Non-skid pad under carrier. Loading instructions followed carefully, including pillows for addditional bulk. Nothing unusual about weight. Instructions for attaching to rack followed carefully. Diagram provided by manufacturer unnecessarily complicated. 4-point attachment forte and aft. 675 mile trip mostly on 4 lane roads. Made four in-transit stops to check security. No rain or high winds. no obvious problems. When unloaded at destination a hole or tear in vinyl fabric in the area of the front right roller tensioner rendered the carrier unusable without repairs. Apparently vinyl fabric not strong enough to withstand any wind buffeting at highway speeds. A little expensive at $70+ for one trip.

Poor quality zipper
We bought this to extend the cargo capacity for our minivan, which has no roof rack. The zippers on it are completely substandard. On our first trip, one zipper pull came off and had to be replaced with a key ring. On only the third use, the zipper itself came apart, and now this overpriced bag is utterly useless.

Sericable, but nosiy
We bought this to help move my daughter from NY to California. It was easy to attach, the material was adequate, and it did hold a lot of stuff. However, througout our 3,000 mile drive, it was annoyingly noisy. It dd the job, and I guess you get what you pay for! Next time I would go with a solid roof top carrier.

Excellent construction and good value
I purchased the Kanga Hurricane Sherpak rooftop cargo storage bag last year. The bag works great. After many uses, no signs of wear and tear. I would recommend you use with a roof rack for more security.

Saved me pulling a trailer
I got it because I needed a little extra storage for moving a kid to college, this fit on cars with or without roof racks, and I wouldn't have to deal with a trailer. I strapped it down to the roof of my old Cherokee, on top of a cheap rubber mat from walmart so it wouldn't slide. We loaded soft goods in garbage bags (clothes) in it while it was on the roof of the car, to avoid tearing any of the heavy plastic because of the weight. I ran the straps through the car to try them out. I don't think it would have moved at all, but threw a load strap over the top for good measure. It was about - 5 degrees below and drove about 200 miles. The fabric was stiff as reported, but we carefully unzipped it and emptied it, the carried inside to be warmed up to be folded. No problems. I gave it a 4 because it is basically heavy tarp material and you need to be careful not moving around cold with a load, but it worked great for a $72 Amazon prime deal. I've got it folded up and expect to use it again on my Vibe or Jeep in the future if I have a full car.

Didn't stay on car without roof rack
Well my roof rack only has side rails, no cross bars. I bought this because it was advertised as not needing cross bars. I tried attaching it two different ways -- if I only attached it to the side rails, it slid backwards (even with a non-stick pad underneath). When I tried to attach it through my car, not using the rack, after literally 1.5 minutes at 70 mph, the entire bag flipped backwards and nearly fell off my car.I am returning it.It would probably work great if you have a real roof rack.
