Cheap plastic
Save your 4 bucks and buy something that will actually work. To start, it is a cheap plastic set of calipers and there is supposed to be a little groove where it would click when you've put enough pressure to take the measurement. Understand that part of it is subjective. Have a bigger groove? too bad, you will never know when it actually clicks in for you. So your measurements will vary a bit. If you want something better get one in the 70-100$ range and will be more consistent, less variation than this piece of plastic that will get tossed the moment you look at it.

OK, worked when I used the technique described online, does seem to describe female measuring, used other techniques described online and got a more realistic result, cheers, was only expecting ballpark etc so did its job!
