A modern day retelling of "The Little Mermaid" and based on the novella by Alice Hoffmann, Aquamarine tells the story of two tween girls, Hayley and Claire, who are trying to enjoy their last summer together before the former has to move half way around the world. Thinking only a miracle could prevent the girls from seperating, they incidentally get one when a boisterous mermaid named Aquamarine washes up in a swimming pool. Aquamarine has only three days on land to prove to her father that love exists before she is forced to marry a merman she does not love. Thinking that the way to true love is a cute teenage boy, Hayley and Claire decide to try to set the young mermaid up with a cute and well meaning young life guard named Raymond, for if they do, Aquamarine will agree to give them a wish, which is all the girls need to keep them both together.Aquarmarine is a fun summer flick that is very of its time, but surprisingly still holds up today. It might not have the censorship that we are typically used to for modern day children's films (there's light swearing, brief mentions of sex, and puberty) but it is still a great film for children. The three teenage protagonists are well meaning and have a great repour together. In general it's very rare to find films that are centered around female freidnship, especially when it doesn't involve copious amounts of backstabbing or gossipping. I highly recommend this movie for girls ages 7 and up, and even some teens and adults might find enjoy this film as well.

I wanted to watch this old movie so bad so happy Netflix had it on hand ready to rent! Made movie night perfect

I watched this film randomly when there was nothing better on, expecting it to be ropey teenage rubbish. Well, it is, but it was also much better than I was expecting! I subsequently bought the dvd as a gift for my niece.Aquamarine is engaging, entertaining and fun, with decent enough acting turns from the three leads and the lovely Arielle Kebbel as the spoiled mean girl. Sara Paxton as the titular mermaid is charming without being saccharine. She's Madison and Ariel with an added bite, and she likes to eat gummy worms.The plot isn't very cohesive, but it's enjoyable. A few lines were real belly laughs, mostly sea-themed puns from Aquamarine herself ("Bullshark!"). There are some light fantasy elements that add interest, and some nice shots of the beach, the ocean, and swimming with 'wild' dolphins.For younger teens/tweens, Aquamarine has a good message about the importance of friendship, standing up to bullies, and finding self-fulfilment without needing a boyfriend. For older viewers it's a harmless piece of vibrant, summery fluff to throw on in the gloomy months when you miss the sun and the seaside.

Delivery being post in the letterbox. There was bend, DVD is cracking and damage the box. How disappointed to watch DVD to played it is, hm?! I'll never see that before. What a shame, I was being paid for this already. Is being damaged on DVD is going bend it is!

Good film but a few parts forst time we watched it had to look away quite dark and jumpy wouldn't recommend to young kids. It's ok and gets easier to watch with each watch.

This is a great story. A teen girl is going to have to leave home. She will leave her best friend behind (Jojo). She and her friend fancy a life guard that all the girls are after. One night she wishes for a reason why they won't have to leave. Her wish is granted and a mermaid appears in her pool. Her and her friend become new best friends with this girl and lots of fun and adventure ensues! A great movie for teenagers and adults alike - even kids. Definitely a girly movie. If you want fantasy and adventure - watch it!
