Thought this would be a simple process but way too much work involved and not easy to clean

This thing is great for making burgers of all different thicknesses or all exactly the same. I wouldn't really want to have to re-adjust the thickness 25 times for a bunch of burger snobs at a giant neighborhood BBQ - but I COULD with this unit. But set it to the perfect thickness for yourself and make thousands of perfect burgers for the rest of your life, because I think this thing will last that long. It's metal and simple and well-made. You can make a pile of burgers and take it all apart to wash it thoroughly. But here's what I would recommend... use cellophane or cheapo sandwich baggies. Grab a scoop of burger, toss it in the wrap or bag and squish. Voilah! You have a pile of bagged burgers ready to put in a freezer bag and freeze. No washing needed. Then pull out 1 or 2 (or 13) at a time to thaw and cook but, duh, take the bag off first ;-)

I received this burger press earlier today. I just processed about 6 pounds of ground beef into 0.4 pound burgers. It works like a charm. I did follow the suggestion of one reviewer and used about 6" squares of parchment paper on both sides of the patty before pressing. Once the patties are frozen, I will vacuum seal them is bags and await the perfect burger. The device is also easy to clean. A suggestion for a future upgrade would be to include a small detachable handle to give more leverage when pressing the patties. My wife weighs 110 pounds and has arthritis in her hands. It is almost impossible for her to use it.

Does not come with instructions, burger will get stuck in its parts, will need disassembly, but I am unable to locate any instructions. Seems cool, but without knowing how to easily dissassemble for proper cleaning this is a potential health hazard.

I've owned many patty presses over the years, but up until now, they've all forced me to make sure the patty was even by getting the pressure from my hand in exactly the right place. Result: Universally uneven patties. This press takes care of that problem. Just press it until it's fully closed, and your patty will be even, every single time. Setting the thickness of your patty is as easy as turning the screw on top, which is marked with the appropriate thickness for 1/4 lb., 1/3 lb., 1/2 lb., and even 3/4 lb. patties. (Or you can set it to whatever you need.) There is a "lock nut" on the adjustment screw, so that you don't accidentally change the setting while you're working. I didn't time it, but I'd be willing to bet this thing cuts my patty-making time in half, plus it takes away the annoyance of always having to fiddle with it to get good patties. My one suggestion: Get patty papers to use with this. Put one on top and bottom. This will keep the press from getting dirty, which is a minor concern, since disassembly for thorough cleaning is pretty tedious. All in all, I find this to definitely be worth the purchase price, especially if you store a lot of ground beef in your freezer.
