SCRABBLE - DELUXE - VINTAGE EDITION

Like all Scrabble sets, it is quite possible to play Scrabble with this one, so 3 stars.Each tile space is surrounded by a low ridge, which holds the tile quite well (but makes emptying the (non-folding) board more difficult at the end of the game). However, the (shiny) board suffers from reflected glare unless placed carefully. It wobbles on its 'turntable' (a circular bump on the underside - I fixed some small self-adhesive feet around the edges to minimise this). The board also collides with the letter-racks when turning unless placed on the box for play (so higher than the racks). The club I play at has taped up the box lids to strengthen them for this. Effective, but not pretty.Scrabble has been around for a long time, and a well-made and designed club set should be available and would sell, I believe. This isn't it - but Spears / Mattel / Hasbro don't seem interested. They redirected me to Tilefish, who sell beautiful, hand-made American Samboards (£110 for just the board), but circular and with a really good turntable.

This was a present to mesh with an original that is still used weekly - perfect condition for a 40 yr old game and my mum thinks I am the best daughter ever.

I used this item as a child, playing with my father and uncle, and I still remember how good this set was, holding the tiles in place and the scoring pegs on the letter rack. I don’t own it now, it wish I did - 5 stars.
