Looks like a great rod
I bought the casting 9.0-Feet/Medium-Light. All my other surf casting rods are heavy med so I have to buy some smaller weights (2 oz sputniks).I can't rate much because I haven't had a chance to hit the beach yet. This is a great looking rod. There are 7 total line glides with 6 on the end piece.I could not see any defects and it has a beautiful finish.Compared to my other rods I suspect that bite detection will be much better and my casting distance will not suffer except maybe a little if the wind is coming in straight at me. I have brought in medium size whiting and didn't even know a fish was on. I usually catch sharks and rays on the long casts using 4 & 5 oz sputniks with the stout rods.I'll likely catch more fish because I won't be over casting the first and second troughs. My only caution is that the shipping material used is great for sending a piece of pipe.I fully expected the rod to be totally destroyed. The package looked like it was ran over after being thrown out at 70 mph.The good news was no damage (hard to believe after looking at the box) and it was easy to get the rod out, the box was already torn open. After a few trips out I'll update this post.

Nice damn rod
Nice damn rod.my dad had one and i was a bit jealous of his shiny new rod so i bought one of my own and love it!!!...fiberglass is usually my go to material for a rod ( im a bit rough on gear) but this thing is made of graphite and it definitely gets the job done..talk about strong. First fish i hooked on it was a 20+ lbs sting ray. Swore it was gonna break but nope, did the deed..!!!! Did i mention its good lookin too.I do however have one con regarding this rod .no guide on the bottom half of the rod. From time to time i like to break the rod down with the line still set up (tie on a leader and go). But with this i have to set all the way up every time i go out because once the two halfs seperate the line is comming straight out of the reel and is not threaded through that all important first guide on the bottom half..It doesnt lose a star because thats just my preference. .

Broken at 1 st fishing trip.
The item arived superfast (by tracking), but was misplaced by the delivery person, so I found it couple of days later and couple of blocks away. Amazon was great, they did not charge me and suggested to keep the rod if I found it later :-). Well I did but only to be used once...This rod looks great and feels fast and strong. It is listed to hold 20 pound mono/30 pound braid. On my first trip I used 15 pound mono with crocodile lure to get some bonito. The lure got tangled in the kelp. I was sure the line would break first, but I was wrong. The bottom piece of the rod snapped and about10 inch piece broke off into water. It was floating like a balsa wood! Well, this rod is weak. I also noticed that the top eye was somehow uneven/tilted, not sure if on purpose (see photo). Well I do not recomend this rod. I got Ugly Stick instead, lets see how that will hold. Still I glued it together with a glass insert (see 2 nd photo), it may work with super thin line for catching bait and small fish. After all I got it for free :-))) Howvet I would never put on it 30 pound braid and loose a yellowtail or a nice bonito. Penn, your reels are great but this rod is a failure :-(

Can't beat price for this rod
Got the 10'mh rod, seems very nice. It is still on the heavy side but lighter then the old model. The Tip is not to soft so it can load well when casting heavier plugs and weights this gives you good distance, compared to an ugly Stick big water rod that tip is very whipy .Is hands down superior.it a st Croix mojo stick, no but at price point you can't go wrong. I have used it a few timas now and it has done very well, handled 5 oz rig plus bait no problem at all and 2 of bucktail a mile .we'll update after I use it more

Feels like casting with UK style rods
I have 3 penn prevail. 2 11" and one 12". Using them with multiplier/bait caster reels. With 4-5oz and baid, I'm able to cast in excess of 120M with an overhead cast. Feels like casting with UK style rods... Love themUPDATE and lowering of my ranking. The 12' is rated for up to 10oz. I'm casting 5oz plus bait. the top section just cracked (actually two cracks) at the join. :(Been in contact with Penn and been told that the same rod is not the same rod in different countries. I.e. this rod is different in New Zealand compare to US and in SA it is yet a different rod etc. So spare parts and replacement is impossible. And Penn apparently do NOT have world wide warranty. I still like the rods, but literally no Warranty outside US (when buying from Amazon US), I can only give it a two star.Tight Lines(And I'm currently waiting for a new Rod from SA. :) )UPDATE: 2Sorry for flip flopping...As the "same" rod is different in many areas of the world, it is not always possible to obtain spare parts. At the end, I was offered a brand new rod for half the price. I got it yesterday. Exactly the same name, but it looks quite different. Unfortunately, the real seat is lower on the NZ rood. Penn, Please stop use fixed reel mounts on surfcasting rods aimed or the free spool/multiplier market. Sliding real seats are cheeper and allows the caster to put it exactly where the caster want it to be!

A little to stiff and damaged on receipt.
Received this rod last week. Received with the 1st eye of the upper section broken. The box it came in must have gotten thrown by around by UPS as the aluminum oxide insert was broke out of its stainless steel tract and found in the plastic bag broken in half. The stainless steel eye frame was undamaged. Otherwise it is a truly beautiful rod. A little stiff but really good looking. I reordered a Penn Battalion med with a fast to moderate action in a ten footer. I already have a 12 foot Jarvis Walker MH and am wanting of something a bit more manageable. Think the Battalion will be more suited to surf schoolie stripers. So never got the Prevail into the water, shame.

No llego en condiciones óptimas.
The media could not be loaded. La caña venía muy mal empacada y sufrió peladas en el mango y en la punta de la caña, además viene sin estuche para guardar la caña.Espero estos daños no comprometan el funcionamiento de la caña.
