Sony ES is the best!
This is my 3rd ES Receiver, number one lasted 15 years, the 2nd 11 and now I am ready to get at least a decade of use out of this unit. Brushed aluminum face plate, heavy construction and high quality connections in the back. Setting up the surround sound was super easy with the included microphone. Very versatile menu and you can rename the ports and change icons to make selecting your device super easy. Finally, amazing sound! I was blown away by my last ES Receiver, same Bose speakers but the sound quality just got a big boost! Now watching movies is even more thrilling. I recommend if you love Sony to only get the ES series, it's like night and day. Also make sure you purchase a model somewhere in the middle. The lowest end ES series seem to have more gimmicks but the next level up is 8lbs heavier so you tell me what the base model is missing.

Absolute Audiophile Music performance out of an AVR
Our cabinet is small so there's no room for a separate pre-amp and amps or avr+integrated stereo amp. I was looking for an upgrade to my home theater/stereo setup, an AVR that actually sounded great playing music to my mains. This receiver nailed it. My setup is all Bowers & Wilkins CM series 2 speakers and this amp absolutely brought them to life.Pros:- very handsome clean look- TOP NOTCH stereo amplification for music- equally great sound for video in 5.2-7.2 surround sound- Seriously the SOUND of this unit is 10/10. A.F.D. sounds the best with my B&W speakers, no DSP necessary.- Actually has support for the future of 4k with real HDCP 2.2Are there any downsides? Why only 4 stars?Well only a few things I don't like:- This thing is huge (deep). Make sure you measure your cabinet before ordering. I had to cut the back out of the cabinet- No baked in BT or Airplay, that's ok. Just add AppleTV- No pre-amp outs (not that you need them since this unit SOUNDS SO GOOD) but the next model up does have pre-outs.- The web browser based setup system is broken and useless. That's not a big issue since the on-amp, and on-screen menus are the best I've ever seen on an AVR.- ARC: this might not be the receiver, it could be my tv... but the handshake between my tv and receiver for broadcast tv audio over HDMI would continually fail at startup causing the tv to revert to it's own speakers. I would have to dig through the settings on the tv again and force it back to arc. I resolved this by running a toslink cable from the tv to receiver for tv audio. This is how I did it with my last receiver that did not support ARC. LOTS of modern receiver reviews mention issues with ARC so it might just stink universally.Final word:- I'm very happy with this AVR. It might be the best high end all-in-one living room amp on the market. It's worth the upgrade over the average AVR if you have already invested in high-end speakers. If you don't have high-end speakers you might not hear any difference over a standard $500 avr.

Very Soft audio felt like a old person reciever
Hi All,If you are moving from Sony STR DN series. This AV receiver is actually downgrade. The audio quality is very soft. Like Marantz, these guys has put all typs of filter audio quality. Sony has been pioneer in vibrant audio quality.I didnt like audio quality at all. Sorry Sony, as a Fan Disappointed.

STR-ZA2000ES great after firmware update
The setup is quite easy; use your primary sources for HDMI inputs 1-2 (Bluray in 1, Xfinity in 2 for HDCP 2.2). It is very easy to use optical or coax audio for these sources if you wish in the input menu. I love the on-screen menu (nothing like a 65" Sony 4K to see everything) I used all 7.2 outputs including two subs that I had available. Instead of using the back two surround speaker connections you can use them for another zone (room, area). Oncve setup use the Auto calibration sensor for your main seat and it sets things up just about perfect. I changed the EQ slightly, and when I bought the Klipsch center speaker I had to re-calibrate; what a difference a good center speaker can make. Now for the problems. I would give this unit a four if not for the fact that even though it has a network connection, to do firmware updates you must download to PC and then update via the USB connection on the front. But thank God you can. My unit quit outputting sound from my two main sources exactly after the 30 day return from Amazon expired. I was forced and highly recommend updating the firmware from 1.033 to 1.5xx or above. The firmware fixed my problems as well as a few other menu item quirks. After the firmware updates, I love the unit. My only other problem is the Xfinity box's audio output (whether HDMI or digital optical) is at least 12db lower than the Sony Bluray. I blame this on Xfinity as I cannot find an adjustment to increase the output +10db. Overall, the STR-ZA2000ES is expensive but the quality is well worth the expense if you have the extra money. I like having all one brand for my TV, DVD and AV receiver. I will never buy Samsung again; I bought a 50" from them just two years ago and it died after the one year warranty.

Nice unit, very easy to set up
Nice unit, very easy to set up, and has full hdcp 2.2 built in. PLUS, this has a Sony 4k upscaling engine built in! I have yet to try that feature, but the rest are fantastic.
