Sharp as hell
Amazingly sharp
User
Initially impressed
Initially impressed but later the handles were not in line and the blade has gone blunt on one of the knives very quickly. The old saying you get what you pay for

I love them
I use these knives for work and I love them. I work in a kitchen so they get a lot of use everyday and they so far have held up great. No signs of damage or rust and as there are three types of knives in the box they are very versatile. They come packaged with protective plastic and a tip protector for safety and they are incredibly sharp. They were slightly bigger than I expected, especially the handles - but now that I'm used to them I don't notice and they are really nice to work with.My only note would be - before I bought them I read all of the reviews and a few of them were unsure if they were full tang (when the blade has a piece of metal that runs down the middle of the handle for strength and balance) and I don't believe that they are. Whilst the weight of them is nice, there is a slight imbalance as the blade is clearly heavier than the handle. This hasn't been a problem so far but I do worry about the handle snapping off if I were to try and cut through something with a lot of resistance. When they first arrived I inspected them and one of them had a crack down the handle which I wasn't happy with so I exchanged it for a new one which was easy enough to do and the new one absolutely fine.Other than that they look great and they work great, I would purchase again

Good sharpness retention
Good blade, good sharpness retention and looks good. Unfortunately the blade is not full length so long term it can come loose from the handle especially if you apply force while cutting.

Not made in Japan
These can be purchased direct from China much cheaper (Ali Express).ย HOSHANHO are likely just rebranding, rather than manufacturing. Itโs dishonest to insinuate the knives are real Japanese knives, made in Japan just because theyโre made from Japanese steel in Japanese style.ย HOSHANHO appear to be head quartered in US.

Functional and Beautiful
I got this set for Christmas in 2025, so they're 6 months into consistent use.Function- first and foremost, they're consistent and it is NOT a chore to keep them sharp. They retain the edge VERY well. I've cut onions, potatoes, fine herbs like rosemary and thyme with them and they're perfect. The blade lengths are ideal and the set will let you tackle any dish you want. The santoku blade will also go through chicken bone with ease, thanks to its heft.Looks- they're beautiful which is why you're checking the reviews (hopefully lol). They're easy to wash and clean. I couldn't be happier with the set.

Didn't last a year, but made it 7 months give or take
One of the knives has chipped after regular use and is rusting around that area. I always hand wash

So....about these knives.....
Truth is, they are NOT Japanese. The companies' info is right on the box. They're chinese. BUT....The truth is, if you're careful, you CAN get very high quality cutlery made in China. These are just that. Very solid, a bit heavy but balanced, and very sharp. They say they're VG10, and I will report back if the edge holds and sharpens like my other VG10 knives. The hammer forging is NOT a mold as far as I can tell. I scanned them carefully and cannot find repeating patterns or other signs of stamping. They are a joy to hold, and an unbelievable value. If you're looking for fine cutlery that doesn't break the bank, and you're not a brand snob, you will be pleasantly surprised by these knives.A free magnetic mount was nice too.
